Fungi startup Norwegian Mycelium (NoMy) takes top prize at Oslo Innovation Week 2025. A proud moment for Katapult Ocean! 🌊 Our portfolio company NoMy has been named the winner of the Oslo Innovation Award 2025, announced during the opening of Oslo Innovation Week. Founded in Oslo in 2020, NoMy is pioneering circular fermentation — transforming food-industry side streams into sustainable mycoproteins and high-value ingredients for food and materials. The jury — Stine Mølgaard Sørensen (Alliance VC), Gisle Gluck Evensen (Summa Equity), and Teodor Bjerrang (SNÖ Ventures) — highlighted NoMy for its “ability to deliver both environmental and economic impact,” and for “showing how innovation can address food security, responsible production, and climate action while achieving global growth.” Congratulations to Ingrid Dynna and David Andrew Quist on this well-deserved recognition for innovation that truly matters. 🌍 → Real action. Real impact. Real Oslo. More on this here https://lnkd.in/dEByW4Bx Photo: Gorm K. Gaare

OSLO INNOVATION WEEK 2025 kicked off on Monday 20 October with "A vibrant Oslo fjord" aboard MS Brisen by our member Brim Explorer, organized by Gründergarasjen and Oslo kommune. It was exciting for us to see the result of the workshop we participated in with students some weeks ago - now they were to share the results with a select audience. Freyja Jørgensen opened the show, introducing Øyvind Såtvedt, Director of Economic Development in Oslo Municipality. He was followed by Ranveig Strøm, CEO, and Ida Laustsen from Punkt Oslo. Then Magnus Svendsen introduced the two student groups, who then presented their results and recommendations, both for Oslo as a #leadingmaritimecity, and the health of the #Oslofjord. Great work by the students! Which was followed by a panel discussion, or rather conversation (nobody disagreed), with Carl Christian Thodesen from our member OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University (moderator), Martin Styrmoe Moen from REV Ocean and HUB Ocean, Agnes Árnadóttir from Brim Explorer (and thus a real shipowner), Henning Røed from Oslofjordens Friluftsråd, and last, but not least, Ingrid H. Maurstad from Katapult Ocean. This was all followed by an interactive session, networking and drinks. In the afternoon the official opening ceremony took place at Munchmuseet, moderated by Isabelle Ringnes, who, with passion and energy, introduced Anita Leirvik North, vice mayor for culture and business at Oslo Municipality. The Oslo Innovation Award was handed out to Norwegian Mycelium (NoMy), by Ingrid Dynna and more. Kudos to Oslo Business Region and Siw Andersen for yet another grand opening of something that has become increasingly successful and international since the first #OsloInnovationWeek back in 2006. Present were also Oslo Chamber of Commerce / ICC Norway with Christopher Vonheim and Julie Marie Winger Eriksen. HISTORY: Oslo Innovation Week was first held in 2006, organized by the City of Oslo, Venture Lab, and Innovation Norway, with Oslo Business Region serving as the project manager. Since its inception, the event has grown into an annual gathering for international and Norwegian innovators, entrepreneurs, and investors, focused on showcasing sustainable solutions and strengthening Norwegian companies that address global challenges. The event has been held annually since 2006, with a mix of physical and online events, especially in recent years due to the pandemic.

Progress update from our portfolio: ARC marine® achieves a global first at Rampion Offshore Wind Farm! Katapult Ocean portfolio company ARC marine and RWE have completed the first full-scale deployment of eco-engineered scour protection at an offshore wind farm, marking a major milestone for nature-inclusive engineering. Around 75,000 patented Reef Cubes™ were installed by marine contractor Rohde Nielsen at one of Rampion’s turbine foundations. The installation provides 25,000 m² of new habitat surface for marine life, combining infrastructure resilience with measurable biodiversity gains. The project, part of RWE’s Reef Enhancement for Scour Protection (RESP) pilot, represents the first real-world use of Reef Cubes as scour protection at an operational offshore wind farm. Unlike traditional rock armour, Reef Cubes are modular, lighter, and designed to transform protection zones into thriving ecosystems. This pilot now moves into a multi-year monitoring phase (2026–2030) to study ecological and geophysical outcomes, helping set a new industry standard for nature-inclusive offshore energy solutions. ARC marine’s collaboration with RWE underscores the scalability and environmental potential of sustainable marine infrastructure, pioneering a new generation of ocean-positive design. Congratulations, Tom Birbeck and ARC marine team, on this landmark achievement! More on this here https://lnkd.in/dSbXUZF6

Three of our portfolio companies — Coral Vita, Sway, and FLOCEAN — have been recognized in TIME’s Best Inventions of 2025! For over 25 years, this prestigious list has highlighted the most groundbreaking ideas shaping our future. To see three ocean-focused companies featured this year is a clear sign that the world is waking up to the ocean’s central role in solving global challenges. 🪸 Coral Vita is working to restore coral reefs that have lost half their cover since 1950. With its BrainCoral platform, the company grows resilient corals up to 50x faster than traditional methods and uses AI to monitor their progress — helping safeguard ecosystems that support one billion people. 🌿 Sway is confronting the plastics crisis with TPSea Flex, a seaweed-based film that replaces conventional plastic packaging while remaining compostable and compatible with existing manufacturing systems. It has already found partners in major retail and fashion brands. 🚰 FLOCEAN tackles water scarcity through deep-sea desalination. Operating hundreds of meters below the ocean’s surface, its subsea pods harness natural pressure to cut energy use nearly in half, offering a quieter, cleaner approach to freshwater production. At Katapult Ocean, we invest in and accelerate companies like these because we believe ocean innovation is essential for a sustainable, equitable future. Seeing them recognized by TIME reaffirms that belief and the global relevance of ocean solutions. Impact is never an afterthought at Katapult Ocean – it shapes how we select, support, and scale startups. Our accelerator is built around three targeted sprints, with the first month devoted entirely to impact. Starting with impact is a deliberate choice. Measuring impact at an early stage is challenging, but absolutely crucial. We believe that founders who learn to define what matters, analyze outcomes, and quantify their positive effects from the beginning will have a competitive advantage as they scale. Sprint 1 is where each company creates a comprehensive impact management plan. Founders articulate long-term goals, clarify the problems they solve, and map out measurable impact, leveraging frameworks like Theory of Change, 5 dimensions of impact, ESG risk assessment, and tools such as Ocean Impact Navigator and IRIS+. The aim is to enable startups to clearly communicate their impact goals, ensuring these ambitions are not only understood by the founders themselves but are explicit and actionable for every new team member, partner, or investor who joins their journey. Early and transparent engagement on impact management brings advantages. It strengthens business strategy, improves accountability, and provides a foundation for communicating progress credibly as companies grow. 🌱 The most important step is to begin the impact measurement process now, rather than waiting for perfect data collection conditions! A comment from Founder's Associate at Brineworks, Olga Molinier, after completing the sprint: “I’ve really enjoyed diving into the Theory of Change as it offers a clear, high-level view of the company, showing what we need to achieve in order to reach our desired outcomes and create meaningful impact.” For a deeper look at the impact frameworks and progress from previous cohorts, explore our latest Impact Report: https://lnkd.in/drKFb2bP Photo: Ofek Liepaz
