📉 When Pontus Ågren joined the equity trading desk in 2007, he walked straight into history. Barely a year later, the financial crisis hit with full force. “It was a steep learning curve,” he recalls. 🌍 The fund had existed for just over a decade. The value? 10% of what it is today. At the time, the fund’s New York office was still young, more start-up than global powerhouse. And then, the markets collapsed. “It feels like yesterday and a lifetime ago all at once.”, Pontus says. Moreover, it shaped his view of trading. Markets are unforgiving, but they also forge resilience and creativity. 🏙️ Since then, Pontus has watched the fund transform into one of the world’s largest investors, with offices across New York, London, Oslo, and Singapore, trading 23 hours per day. What has kept him engaged, he explains, is not the scale but the spirit of experimentation. “Our approach to markets and technology has always been curious and bold. That curiosity keeps me excited each Monday morning!” 📊 In simple terms, his job is to turn portfolio decisions into market reality. That means navigating liquidity challenges, deciding when to strike quickly or move carefully, and managing the delicate balance of trust and information with brokers. “Being just one percent more right than wrong has massive implications when you manage billions, or even trillions,” the Co-Head of Equity Trading notes. 💡 For Pontus, the thrill comes from the constant decision-making, the blend of analysis and instinct, and the knowledge that timing matters as much as accuracy. “When you hit the right trade at the right moment, the impact is enormous.
