From a pack of gum to global supply chains, standards connect the world 🌍 Happy #WorldStandardsDay! 🎉 Today we celebrate the power of partnership through global standards. It all began 50 years ago at a Marsh Grocery store in Ohio, when a pack of Wrigley’s gum became the first product scanned with a UPC barcode, powered by GS1 standards that still connect businesses and consumers worldwide today. 🛒 From manufacturers to hospitals, from retailers to regulators, GS1 open standards help organisations collaborate, share trusted data, and innovate. By working together using standards, we turn a shared vision for a better world into reality. 🤝 #worldstandardsday #throwback #technology #data #evolution #gs1

🌍 From the UK to Aotearoa, healthcare systems share similar challenges: delivering safer, smarter and more sustainable care with limited resources. 🩹 In this episode of GS1 Healthcare's Global Impact by Leading Healthcare Locally series, Dr. Nnenna Osuji, Clinician, Consultant Haematologist and CEO of North Middlesex University Hospital, shows how GS1 standards are transforming the NHS: ✅ Preventing surgical delays caused by expired stock ✅ Streamlining inventory and recalls ✅ Building clinician trust in digital change ✅ Supporting financial resilience and reducing waste Dr Osuji's message resonates strongly with New Zealand’s health system pressures. As we navigate change in our own system, the success of GS1 enabled solutions like Scan4Safety in UK shows what is possible: Empowering frontline staff, lifting morale and creating proactive, patient centered care. This video is part of the 20th anniversary of GS1 Healthcare, celebrating two decades of global standards driving local leadership. 📽️ Watch Dr. Osuji’s story below. 🔗 Full link in comments. #standards #tech #healthtech #gs1 #Uk #NewZealand

🌍 Today is World Patient Safety Day 🩺 💊 📢 The World Health Organization's message is clear: safer healthcare for every newborn and every child starts with the basics. 🤳 One of the most powerful tools we have is the humble barcode. It verifies medicines, prevents counterfeits, supports recalls, and gives confidence that every dose is safe. 🇳🇿 In Aotearoa, GS1 New Zealand continues to work with the healthcare sector to adopt global standards so every medicine and device can be uniquely identified. This foundation saves lives and protects our tamariki. 👶 Hear from our Head of Healthcare, Jenny Langton, on why unique identification is a critical building block of patient safety. Thank You to all the healthcare professionals who work every day to keep patients safe and Pharmacy Today I New Zealand Doctor Rata Aotearoa for helping us spread awareness on standards adoption in healthcare. Also powering our mahi behind the scenes are Ange Cleland I Debbie Joplin. 👇 Story links in comments. #WorldPatientSafetyDay #GS1Healthcare #PatientSafety #GlobalStandards

I was honoured to be at the Building Industry Federation New Zealand AGM last week where Chair Karin Cunningham kindly mentioned the common interest that GS1 & BIF have around lifting productivity of the sector through digitisation and enhanced visibility. Minister Chris Penk MP gave an interesting address on the pragmatic changes that he is leading - let’s hope that a coherent, internationally standardised approach to digital labelling of building products is on his agenda and that of Minister David Seymour's review of labelling being run by the Ministry for Regulation)! Thanks Julien Leys for the great work you are leading.
