50 Real-World Android Debugging ⚠️ ANRs (App Not Responding) 1. ANR = Main thread blocked for 5+ sec 2. Common cause = disk/network/db on main thread 3. Use StrictMode to detect main thread abuse 5. onClick → delay = bad UX, risk of ANR ⚠️ Crashes 6. Always read the last 5 lines of the crash log 7. NullPointerException = you trusted something that didn’t exist 9. Fatal Exception = unhandled or unrecoverable 10. Use try-catch only around risky code, not everything ⚠️ Lifecycle Bugs 11. Fixing the Default Flutter Splash Screen Flicker (App Icon on Startup) If you've ever noticed that your Flutter app briefly shows the app icon before your actual splash screen, that’s Flutter displaying the default native Android launch screen. I recently fixed this behavior to ensure a seamless splash experience, and here’s how I did it: ✅ Step 1: Replace styles.xml Update android/app/src/main/res/values/styles.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <resources>   <​style name="LaunchTheme" parent="Theme.AppCompat.Light.NoActionBar">     <item name="android:windowBackground">@drawable/launch_background</item>   <​/style>   <​style name="Theme.App.Transparent" parent="Theme.AppCompat.Light.NoActionBar">     <item name="android:windowIsTranslucent">true</item>     <item name="android:windowNoTitle">true</item>     <item name="android:windowFullscreen">true</item>   <​/style> </resources> ✅ Step 2: Update the manifest theme In AndroidManifest.xml, replace: android:theme="@style/LaunchTheme" with: android:theme="@style/Theme.App.Transparent" This ensures that the app doesn't show the default white screen or app icon during startup. ✅ Step 3: Add AppCompat dependency If you're using Kotlin DSL (build.gradle.kts), ensure this is in the dependencies {} block: implementation("androidx.appcompat:appcompat:1.4.0") If the block doesn’t exist, create it as shown above. 🚀 Flutter Tip of the Day: Future.microtask() In Flutter (and Dart), we often use Future to schedule asynchronous work. But did you know about Future.microtask()? 🔹 Unlike a regular Future, which goes into the event queue, a microtask is scheduled in the microtask queue — which always runs before the event queue. This means your code executes as soon as possible, right after the current synchronous code finishes. 👉 Why is this useful? Initialize state before the next event loop iteration. Run lightweight tasks immediately without waiting for timers/events. Handle callbacks in a predictable order. ⚠️ Pro tip: Use microtasks for short operations only.
