Our Managing Partner Václav Nekvapil from the Prague office shared his analysis of the recent Czech Parliamentary elections with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic (AmCham CZ). The discussion focused on the likely coalition scenarios, emerging trends in Czech politics, and what the results could mean for business, investors, and international partners in the months ahead. Thanks Weston Stacey for hosting this timely and engaging session. #CECGroup #PublicAffairs #CzechRepublic #Elections #AmChamCZ
Elections are over. Now the really hard and vital part of politics- governing- begins. This morning, AmCham leaders met with Václav Nekvapil of CEC Group to discuss the results, potential coalitions, their policies, and how durable they would prove to be. Elections are snapshots of how the public is feeling, and how parties evolve to represent the always shifting views of society. This election felt a little like a prelude to some significant changes that will come. Turnout was high. The number of voters who preferred parties that did not meet the threshold for parliament was lower than last time. That means the entities elected to parliament truly represent the electorate. The challenge will be that three of the six entities elected to Parliament represent groups of parties that are not hard coalitions. Now that they have seats at the table, they will act somewhat independently. What this means for economic policy, transatlantic relations, and engagement within the European Union has some clear signals. Much will depend on who is the minister of what, and how well he can build a team to implement the coalition agenda. Vaclav gave us some good intel on how it all will end up, and how long we can expect the current political consensus to last. Much thanks to our own newly elected president Pavel Sovicka for his own insights, especially on land use reform, and to AmCham board members Juraj Sedivy of CETIN, Karin Bacmanakova of Bristol Myers Squibb, and our immigration lead Miroslav Mejtský of Petyovský & Partners for their insights. Members can receive the slide deck and meeting report by contacting Barbora Vítová.

🇨🇿 Czech Elections 2025: Andrej Babiš Returns to Power The weekend elections in Czechia brought a major political shift — former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and his ANO party scored a decisive victory, setting the stage for difficult coalition talks and a likely minority government. 🔹 ANO: 34.51% – 80 seats 🔹 SPOLU (ODS, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09): 23.36% – 52 seats 🔹 STAN: 11.23% – 22 seats 🔹 Pirates: 8.97% – 18 seats 🔹 SPD: 7.78% – 15 seats 🔹 Motorists: 6.77% – 13 seats 📊 Key Takeaways • Andrej Babiš poised to return as Prime Minister after a landslide win. • President Petr Pavel began post-election consultations, expected to task Babiš with forming a government. • A potential ANO minority Cabinet could rely on support or tolerance from SPD and Motorists, securing up to 108 seats. • Current ruling coalition SPOLU–STAN conceded defeat • Far-left coalition Enough! failed to cross the 5% threshold and will not enter Parliament. 📈 Trends & Numbers • Turnout: 68.9%, up from 65.4% in 2021. • Women in Parliament: 67 MPs – the highest number in history. • Average MP age: 49 years. • Babiš received a record 71,000 preferential votes. • Support for ANO surged in economically weaker regions, drawing former voters of “anti-system” parties.
