As we get closer to the First OAI Foundation U.S. Hands-on Workshop, we’re excited to introduce another special hands-on session from our program. On November 19th (2:00–5:00 PM), Allbesmart, OAI Associate Member, will lead two dedicated hands-on sessions focused on 5G network operations and security. 5G Operational Walkthrough with OAIBOX™ and OpenAirInterface Participants will: - Learn how to set up a 5G test network quickly and easily using OAIBOX™ and OAI. - Understand the 3GPP 5G NR protocol stack and its core components. - Observe how different air interface configurations — including bandwidth, TDD slot formats, and SISO/MIMO modes — impact end-to-end connectivity. - Monitor and troubleshoot operations using live logs and Wireshark packet inspection. - Discover how to extend or modify the OAI codebase to test custom algorithms. 🚀 New World Record in 5G Uplink with Open Source! 🚀 Our team has set a world record for 5G uplink speed on an open-source stack, reaching 422 Mbps using the OAIBOX MAX, powered by the OAI core network, OAI gNB, and Emerson/NI (National Instruments) USRP X410. This achievement was made possible thanks to the incredible collaboration with the OpenAirInterface Software Alliance engineering team. Uplink traffic is expected to grow sharply in 6G, fueled by AI-enabled applications like robotic devices continuously uploading data to edge inference engines. Last week, we had the opportunity to trial the #OAIBOX MAX at Instituto de Telecomunicações-Aveiro as part of the 6G-PATH project. It was inspiring to collaborate with the talented and enthusiastic team at IT-Aveiro, led by Professor Susana Sargento, and exchange ideas on how OAIBOX can help accelerate next-generation 6G research. 🗓️ Last Thursday, we were proud to host the 6G-SMART Project in-person meeting here in Castelo Branco, Portugal. The morning took place at Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco facilities, where the consortium shared project updates and presentations. In the afternoon, we welcomed all partners at Allbesmart for a live demonstration of our work, showcasing the progress made toward the future of intelligent and self-managing 6G networks. The 6G-SMART Project (6G Self-Organising and Managing Open Radio Access Network) is a CELTIC-NEXT EUREKA CLUSTER project running from November 2024 to December 2027. It tackles the complexity of next-gen mobile networks by combining O-RAN architecture with machine learning: developing ML models for self-configuration, self-optimisation, and self-healing; designing an ML orchestrator to manage conflicts between models; and doing real‐world testing in both telecom and smart factory settings.
