REPLAY OPTICA ONLINE INDUSTRY MEETING ON PHOTONICS ENABLED AI. First, a THANK YOU. Following the success of the Global Photonics Economic Forum in Malaga two weeks ago, powered by more than 300 human beings, it's now time for the replay of the live Optica Online Industry Meeting on Photonics-enabled AI. It was broadcast on October 14th 2025. And this turned out to be an EXCELLENT discussion. We delayed it because of all the other coverage from Malaga on this channel. Two new data centres open in the US every week, bringing the total to 1,200 sites already operational. But AI data centres may soon consume 12% of all US electricity—up from just 4% in 2023. Photonics has emerged as the key enabler for next-generation AI hardware—boosting processing speed, reducing energy consumption, and unlocking massive scalability. Photonics is not a side story. It is the only way forward. Without optics, AI’s energy demand will bankrupt utilities and households. Without lasers, there is no cloud, no global communication. During the 90-minute meeting, we debated how to integrate photonics with AI hardware at scale and how to overcome data throughput and latency bottlenecks. We explore new business opportunities in neuromorphic computing, optical processors, and supply-chain collaborations. Our speakers included technology integrators: Liron Gantz from NVIDIA. Erman Timurdogan from Lumentum. Subal Sahni from Celestial AI. Daniel Pérez López from iPRONICS. Mark Rushworth from Finchetto. Andreas Abt from Q.ANT. And Xianxin Guo from Lumai. Detectors and lasers, soon native to TFLN. Lightium is proud to be part of INGENIOUS, a newly funded €7.6M European–Canadian project to integrate lasers and detectors into next-gen TFLN photonic chips. 👉 TFLN offers unmatched performance in modulation, speed, and loss. 👉 But it lacks two critical pieces: light generation and detection. 👉 INGENIOUS solves that—by combining TFLN with InP-based lasers and detectors, integrated at wafer scale using micro-transfer printing (µTP). Our role: ✅ Leading the platform development ✅ Delivering wafer-scale TFLN+InP integration ✅ Expanding our PDK to include active and nonlinear components ✅ Backed by a €3.1M project budget, supported by Innosuisse This is how we turn TFLN into a complete system platform and build the infrastructure for scalable, production-ready photonics in Europe and beyond.
