Hacks Hackers Hate – Built-In Bins to Bunk Baddies

This technical presentation dives into free and easy ways to harden desktops against such abuse. You’ll learn how to tweak application associations, set up effective local firewall rules, and baseline before making changes to avoid disruptions. We’ll explore real-world threat examples that demonstrate why these techniques persist. Additionally, we will demonstrate baselining tools and outcomes to show the impact of these changes. This talk will equip you with actionable strategies for strengthening your endpoints, ensuring you leave with practical steps to make hackers hate your endpoints.

In their free time, Kellon enjoys getting away from the computer to go to music festivals, spin pretty lights, play board games, and scream along to pop-punk in the car.

Mike Devens
Manager, Threat Research
Mike is a Senior Threat Hunter at Red Canary and has spent the last decade working in IT and information security. He started his career leading IT infrastructure teams in the Army, and later transitioned to information security and worked in security operations management, incident response, and threat hunting. As a Senior Threat Hunter, Mike works with customers to improve their security posture and hunt for, investigate, and respond to threats in their environments. Outside of work, he has a passion for spending time with his family, gardening, and skiing.

Practical Threat Emulation with Atomic Red Team

Atomic Red Team is an open source library of tests designed to test your organization’s ability to detect threat actor TTPs. Attendees of this optional two-hour session will get a crash course on configuring a testing environment, running atomic tests, and crafting adversary emulations based on the latest threat intelligence.

A seasoned cybersecurity professional, Gerry brings over a decade of expertise in digital forensics, incident response, and threat intelligence. His background includes investigating cybercrimes as a state and federal law enforcement officer, followed by roles in enterprise and consulting. At Red Canary, Gerry now focuses on delivering tailored cloud detection and response solutions. He holds a Master's in Information Assurance from Norwich University and multiple industry certifications. Outside of cybersecurity, Gerry enjoys off-grid living in South Dakota.
