  • 🚉 Designing journeys for a sustainable future isn’t just about moving people from A to B—it’s about shaping experiences, connecting communities and building infrastructure that lasts for generations. At Sweco, we believe transport architecture is more than functional. Stations, terminals and hubs form the gateways to our cities, influencing how places are experienced and remembered. They must be safe, accessible, resilient—and above all—sustainable. As mobility transitions towards rail, fossil-free transport and cycling, architects and engineers face the challenge of creating environments that not only enable seamless travel but also encourage greener choices. Our latest article highlights how Sweco is contributing to this shift through some of Europe’s most complex infrastructure projects, including:    🔹 Stockholm’s metro expansion – designing safe, accessible and art-filled underground stations, including Sofia station 100 metres below ground.  🔹 Tripla Station in Helsinki – a LEED Platinum-certified transport hub that unites districts and creates a new urban heart for the city.  🔹 Frankfurt’s U5 metro extension – a precision tunnelling project that balances technical innovation with urban integration.  By combining architecture and engineering, Sweco designs hubs that are efficient, human-centred and adaptable for decades to come. 👉 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dSDvqZQy #SwecoGroup #TransformingSocietyTogether

Europe is the fastest-warming continent and with it comes escalating risks: deadly heatwaves, destructive floods and mounting pressure on our cities and infrastructure. Recent floods across Europe have made one thing clear: resilience isn’t optional, it’s essential. Building critical infrastructure resilience requires more than risk assessments. It demands a continuous, interdisciplinary effort — from understanding asset-level vulnerabilities to preventing cascade effects across interconnected systems. As climate change accelerates and knowledge evolves, resilience must be treated as an ongoing journey. Regular assessments, updated strategies and cross-sector collaboration are vital to safeguarding communities and economies. At Sweco, we see from our projects that resilience is never a one-off achievement but a process of adaptation and improvement. Each step generates insights that help cities and sectors make smarter, more cost-effective decisions in the face of uncertainty. When we think about critical infrastructure failures, power cuts or flooded roads may come to mind. But the reality is far more complex and dangerous. Infrastructure systems are deeply interconnected. A single disruption like extreme rainfall flooding a subway station can cascade into widespread failures across transport, water, electricity and even healthcare. The result? Entire cities grind to a halt, businesses lose productivity and communities are left vulnerable. And the damage doesn’t stop at the physical level. The psychological toll is often underestimated. After severe flooding, residents in many European cities report persistent anxiety—some checking weather apps every hour, fearing the next storm. When essential facilities like schools, hospitals and care homes are impacted, it’s not just about logistics; it’s about safety, stability and emotional well-being. This “hidden layer” of impact matters just as much as rebuilding damaged assets. True resilience isn’t only about hardening infrastructure—it’s also about supporting communities to withstand both the visible and invisible effects of climate-driven disasters. Cities across Europe are beginning to map these risks and interdependencies, sparking new collaborations across energy, transport, water and telecom networks. But more needs to be done to embed emotional resilience alongside technical solutions. Sweco’s recent study of 26 European cities sheds light on how municipalities are confronting these challenges. Hospitals are places where some of life’s most intense moments unfold – hope and joy, but also worry and grief. For patients, it’s often a time of vulnerability. For staff, it’s a place of great responsibility and high demands. That’s why healthcare environments must be designed with equal care for both recovery and work. At Sweco, we create spaces for difficult conversations, compassionate farewells, learning and advanced treatment. We know that architecture can make a measurable difference to well-being – from the calming effect of greenery and daylight to the efficiency of clear flows and functional workspaces. Healthcare needs are changing faster than ever, driven by political priorities, medical breakthroughs, demographic shifts and technology. The right design doesn’t just meet today’s needs – it adapts to tomorrow’s. In our client projects across Europe – from Finland’s user-oriented Ahvenisto Hospital to Stuttgart’s integrated Cancer Centre and the transformation of UZ Brussels – we combine functionality, sustainability and humanity. Each project is rooted in research, shaped by collaboration and focused on enhancing the experience of both patients and staff. Hellettä on kesällä piisannut sekä Suomessa että muualla Euroopassa, eikä se ole enää liiallisena kovin odotettu kesäkokemus. Selvitimme Swecolla vuonna 2024 Euroopan kaupunkien valmiutta torjua helleaaltojen haittoja. Analysoimme ilmastonkestävyyttä ja varautumista koskevia toimintaprosesseja ja politiikkoja 24 kaupungissa eri puolilla Eurooppaa. Lisäksi haastattelimme kuuden kaupungin edustajia helleaaltoihin varautumiseen liittyen: Bryssel, Kööpenhamina, Helsinki, Oslo, Rotterdam ja Tukholma. Selvityksessä korostuu datan puute erityisesti helteiden vaikutuksista haavoittuvassa asemassa oleviin ihmisryhmiin.
