When I was an SDR, I booked 224 meetings and it all started with the right triggers. No guesswork. No spray-and-pray. Just signals that point straight to buying intent. I built my process around 4 key triggers: → Role Changes A new hire or promotion means fresh priorities and an open budget. → Funding Events Capital injections accelerate projects. Strike while they’re spending. → Tech Installs When a company adopts new software, they often need complementary tools. → Content Engagement Downloads, webinar sign-ups, blog views prospects who raise their hand are begging to talk. Together, these triggers feed my Trigger Scanner, so I always know why now and email with confidence. Since switching to signal-driven lists, my reply rates jumped from 2% to 12% and pipeline followed. Two of the worst questions you can ask on a sales demo: 1. “Does that make sense?” 2. “What questions do you have?” Those don’t sell. They just fill the silence. ✅ 10 demo questions that move deals forward: 1. “How are you doing [X workflow] today?” (Ask right before you demo the feature → creates contrast between today vs your product.) 2. “How does that compare to how you’re doing it now?” (Ask right after the demo → reinforces contrast, locks in value.) 3. “To what extent do you envision this being useful in your situation?” (Gets them imagining themselves using your product.) 4. “How do you see your team using that?” (Solid for decision makers who buy but don’t use.) 5. “To what degree is this resonating so far?” (A mid-point pulse check. Much better than “any questions?”) 6. “To what extent do you see that solving [problem they shared earlier]?” (Closes the loop between pain → solution.) 7. “What benefits do you see showing up in your world from this?” (Gets them to voice the benefits out loud.) 8. “Where do you want to double-click with a few questions?” (Same intent as “any questions?” but phrased as a pattern interrupt.) 9. “It seems like that resonated—what challenge in your business makes that hit home?” (When you strike a chord, this uncovers gold.) 10. “It seems like this isn’t resonating—where am I missing the mark?” (When you’re off track, this pulls you back on track.) The difference? The first two questions put the spotlight on you. The 10 above put the spotlight on them. That’s where selling happens. P.S. Level Up Your Sales Conversations: 5 Phrases to Persuade Without Being Pushy Ever wonder if your sales language is landing the right way? These 5 examples below powerfully show how even small communication tweaks can make a real difference in expressing value. ↳  Instead of phrases like: ❌ "Let me know when you change your mind." ❌ "I'll send you some more info, so you can get back to me if you're interested" ❌ "You are missing out, if you don’t do this." ❌ "This is the best solution." ❌ "I think you should increase your budget." ↳ Try these more collaborative approaches: ✅ "Would next week work for a quick follow up?" ✅ "Would you be open to go through details in a quick call?" ✅ "Based on what we've seen with other customers, there's a significant value in [xy]. What potential downsides do you foresee?" ✅ "This solution offers [xy] benefits, which I think aligns well with your objective [y]." ✅ "We've identified some areas where a strategic budget increase could yield substantial returns. Shall we discuss the potential impact?" Let's shift from telling to collaborating and from pushing to partnering.
