You may have heard of service meshes before and if you did it may have been mostly about how complicated they are. Istio is one of the most popular meshes and using it with the Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) on AWS is described below. Yes it is true Service Meshes can be complicated but there is a lot going on with these and you get a lot of functionality without having to change your apps. You can add security in pod to pod communications easily with Istio and setup things like canary deployments and have good observability tools out of the box.
