The global shift to renewable energy is gaining pace, but Sweden has seen limited new investments in recent years. That’s why this summer we made two strategic acquisitions to strengthen our position when the market turns. We have added the Fageråsen wind project in Dalarna (up to 34 turbines, 700 GWh annually) and a 60% stake in the fully permitted Duvhällen project near Eskilstuna (150 GWh annually). Both are expected to be operational by 2028. "These projects are a clear example of how we’re putting our strategy into action. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of the Beehive battery energy storage project from EDF power solutions North America through our fifth flagship fund, Copenhagen Infrastructure V (CI V). Beehive is a 1 GWh storage project based in Peoria, Arizona. CIP will manage the project through the remainder of construction, with commercial operation expected to be achieved in the first half of 2026. Tim Evans, Partner and Head of North America at CIP said of the acquisition: “We anticipate Beehive will provide reliable energy and grid services to customers in Arizona and build on CIP’s track record of developing, constructing, and operating energy infrastructure investments across the country. First six months 2025: Investments today – for a fossil-free future Electricity prices in the Nordic region fell during the first half of 2025 and Vattenfall’s total electricity generation declined. Despite this, Vattenfall reports an improved underlying operating profit. Contributing to the improvement in earnings were more favourable effects from price hedging on the continent and improved results from both trading and distribution operations. During the quarter, we took an investment decision that enables increased capacity at the Harsprånget hydro power plant in Sweden and obtained several permits for the Muir Mhòr wind farm off the east coast of Scotland. Power exchange Nord Pool will provide a new trading platform to manage flows on the 1.4 GW North Sea Link between Norway and the UK, National Grid said on Thursday.   Nord Pool has operated the solution since the cable went live in 2021, enabling implicit auctioning where power flows are guided by spot prices on both sides. But owners National Grid and Statnett launched a tender for a new and improved system starting September next year, which will also open the Norwegian auction to other exchanges in line with EU regulations.   The updated platform will introduce intraday auctions and move to 30-minute resolution, at least for intraday trading. 🇸🇪 Sweden’s 2026 budget paves way for new nuclear The Swedish government has proposed SEK 220bn ($23.3bn) in loan frameworks and long-term price-hedging support to back up to 5000 MWe of new nuclear capacity. Agreements with project developers could be signed in 2026–27, pending EU approval. The plan includes funding boosts for regulatory bodies and a new environmental review authority to streamline permits. Sweden, which once planned to phase out nuclear, now targets at least two large reactors by 2035 and up to 10 by 2045.
