Given our extensive work in Singapore's healthcare sector, we watched yesterday’s (24 Sept 2025) spirited Parliamentary debate on private health insurance sustainability with interest. It was both timely and necessary. As Minister of State for Health Rahayu Mahzam noted, excessive competition and “overly generous” policy design (e.g., minimal rider co-payment) have helped drive up private hospital bills, premiums, and safeguards in the claims process. Our recent Blackbox report, 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒆, flags the same fault lines: rising healthcare costs, confusing policy terms, and eroding public trust - all accelerated by the Mount Elizabeth fiasco. Our study highlights the need for: 1. Clearer, plainer communications from insurers 2. Stronger consumer understanding of coverage and trade-offs 3. More balanced product design to manage costs while restoring confidence Blackbox anticipates further constructive policy–industry dialogue that delivers better healthcare financing outcomes for Singaporeans, and looks forward to our insights continuing to inform the discussions. We could have snipped any number of sharp observations from our speakers last week - here are just three. Together, they tell the story of modern insight: it’s not about seeking attention for attention's sake, it’s about earning interest. And in a world of survey fatigue and scepticism, data points alone won’t cut it; the real story emerges when you connect the dots and read between the lines. 👉 Brand leaders & agency partners - connect with us for research solutions built for today’s economy: [email protected] (Event recap in comments.)

Yesterday we hosted the Blackbox Brand Leaders Brunch: The Insight Disconnect - Why Research Needs Rewiring in the Attention Economy. In a world where people move faster, trust less, and engage across fragmented, emotionally charged channels, traditional surveys and recall metrics alone don’t cut it. Our discussion centred on what a smarter, more human approach to insight looks like - one that captures why people decide the way they do, and does so at the speed leaders need. Why does Blackbox care about this issue? Well, we exist to help organisations make decisions that matter. That means rebuilding listening systems for today’s reality: mixed-method, conversational, emotionally aware, and relentlessly practical. The collective lesson from the room yesterday was clear - when we design research as a genuine conversation (not a checkbox exercise), the quality of decisions goes up. Huge thanks to our guest panellists Mansi Trivedi (Transmission), Jessalynn Chen (Labbrand), and our own David Black (Blackbox). We even had a late-night appearance from Max Fergus of UserCue dialling in from San Fran, for which we are appreciative. And to every brand, agency and public-sector leader who joined us - thank you for making time for an honest, constructive dialogue. We’ve captured the 7 Things We Learned from the event in a short article - see link in the comments. #MarketResearch #AttentionEconomy #BrandStrategy #makedecisionsthatmatter

Singapore businesses are bracing for a tough year ahead. Last week, the Singapore Business Federation, released the latest National Business Survey 2025 – Manpower & Wages Edition, for which Blackbox was the research partner. The data illustrates a difficult market and some gloomy sentiment: 1. Confidence softens: 35% of firms expect conditions to worsen, pushing the Business Sentiment Index down to 55.4. 2. Hiring cools: Only 36% plan to expand their workforce in the next year, compared to 40% in 2024. 3. Manpower pressures mount: Rising labour costs and reskilling challenges dominate business concerns. For Singapore’s employers, 2025 is shaping up as a year of tough trade-offs between cost, talent, and growth.
