GreenBear Group LLC have been attending SuperReturn Asia for nearly the past 2 decades of it's existence & this year's event in #singapore was the largest ever with over 3,000 delegates forming the largest convocation of alternative asset and private market professionals in Asia over the course of the year - a must attend week if you are investing or managing capital from the region! A few key takeaways: - Expanding LP footprint: the base of SE Asia / Hong Kong-based programmatic institutional LPs investing in private markets funds is expanding remarkably. We have noted 50-60 proper #LP entities in each of both Singapore & Hong Kong - LP quality: As a result of the above, the onslaught of visiting overseas fund managers continues to expand - but not just fundraising-deficient fund managers - established track record managers in the US & Europe who have traditionally not taken capital from the region - a recognition of the regional LP sophistication - US market: It is still remarkable how so many Asia LPs seek US #middlemarket private equity that is often inaccessible. Now as many of those funds expand and are coming to the region, this is crowding out the mediocre or unproven fund managers - Regional LPs remain frustrated with SE Asia across strategies as well as are fatigued from seeing the same foreign fund managers visiting the region with limited success in their home regions - Interest in #china is resuming as the Hong Kong #IPO market pipeline builds - Increasing investment from #insurancecompanies, #foundations and #endowments is driving capital to #gpstakes, #privatecredit, #infrastructure - #blockchain interest has increased as Asian LPs, and not just #familyoffices, continue to invest in #funds, #companies, #tokens - interest from SE Asia LPs in #india may be waning after several large name raises in PE and VC have taken place Great photo Sanjay Gujral, Dr. Dorothy Kelso, and Rishi Jugdhur - many thanks! #alternativeassets #privatemarkets #conferences #asiapacific #seasia #privateequity #venturecapital #fundmanagers #asia #limitedpartners #capitalmarkets

In the early part of my analyst career, I covered SM Summit, a manufacturer of audio cassette tapes, followed by CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs — all gradually made obsolete by advancing technology. Kong Chee Min, who rose through the ranks from accountant to regional CEO at SM Summit, was appointed CEO in 2011, just as the company pivoted into a new business - managing workers’ accommodation - and rebranded itself as Centurion Corp. Since then, Centurion has grown into one of the largest specialists in purpose-built accommodation for foreign workers and students, with over 70,000 beds in its portfolio and a market capitalisation of S$1.4 billion. Yesterday, it spun off 14 assets worth S$1.8 billion into Centurion Accommodation REIT, raising S$770 million in the second-largest listing of the year.
