On Market View today: Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to allocate S$1.1B to three asset managers to invest in Singapore stock market; Microsoft issues alert to businesses, governments about server software attack; Alphabet Inc., Tesla and The Coca-Cola Company’s earnings in focus this week; Japanese Yen movements after Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba vows to stay on; Lum Chang Creations Limited’ SGX Group Catalist debut, S-REITS to watch Singapore shares rose today, breaking above the 4,200 point mark at one point. The Straits Times Index was up 0.34% at 4,203.87 points at 11.58am Singapore time, with a value turnover of S$680.51M seen in the broader market. In terms of companies to watch, we have Lum Chang Creations, after the company made its trading debut on the Catalist board of the Singapore Exchange today under the trading name “Lum Chang Creat” and trading code “LCC”. Elsewhere, from Hong Kong topping 25,000 points for the first time in three years, to movements relating to the Japanese yen after Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba vowed to stay on even after another election defeat – more international headlines remained in focus. Plus – how Microsoft issued an alert about “active attacks” on server software used by government agencies and businesses to share documents within organisations, and recommended security updates that customers should apply immediately. GreenBear Group LLC have been attending SuperReturn Asia for nearly the past 2 decades of it's existence & this year's event in #singapore was the largest ever with over 3,000 delegates forming the largest convocation of alternative asset and private market professionals in Asia over the course of the year - a must attend week if you are investing or managing capital from the region! A few key takeaways: - Expanding LP footprint: the base of SE Asia / Hong Kong-based programmatic institutional LPs investing in private markets funds is expanding remarkably. We have noted 50-60 proper #LP entities in each of both Singapore & Hong Kong - LP quality: As a result of the above, the onslaught of visiting overseas fund managers continues to expand - but not just fundraising-deficient fund managers - established track record managers in the US & Europe who have traditionally not taken capital from the region - a recognition of the regional LP sophistication - US market: It is still remarkable how so many Asia LPs seek US #middlemarket private equity that is often inaccessible. 🇭🇰 HK Life Market Update - Q1 2025 WOW.... Period. The HK Life Industry scored their biggest Q1 in the last decade or more, a 25% yoy growth vs Q1 '24, and reached almost 6x the size of the Singapore Life Market in a quarter. Average case size also reached a record US$22k / case for RP, and US$225k / case for SP. Despite launching the Risk Based Capital Framework mid of last year, and facing more cost-conscious MCV behaviors, impact to property markets and threats from trade tariffs, the Life market remained very resilient, and saw continuous year on year growth since 2020. Product development also took an exciting turn, with insurers testing waters with new propositions (eg Index UL, digital products, hybrid WL plans etc) with a positive doubling down on contributions from the domestic market and expansion to new channels. To be fair, the relaxation of Wealth Connect rules and other pro-market initiatives like SFO, CIES and regulatory reforms to encourage IPOs and liquidity boost in general also indirectly contributed to this phenomenon. The 1 July deadline for Life illustration rate caps may have also indirectly contributed to sales urgency, but this needs to be validated against Q3 data later in the year, and if true, Q2 2025 may also be another monster quarter for HK. Unlike Singapore where post-RBC2, ILPs gained in absolute dominance, instead, for Hong Kong, their previous PAR contributions got diluted by a shift in overall cases towards non-Par (ie 1% in 2024 to 33% in 2025), and this trend is expected to continue into Q2 and beyond, especially with the new HNW propositions gaining traction. 🇸🇬 What can SG learn from this? 🇸🇬
