Facial recognition tech is expanding into South Korea’s 🇰🇷 payment sector 🤯 Companies are currently racing to establish a foothold. Here’s a list of the current Key Players in the sector: ► Shinhan Card – Early adopter; launched a pilot in 2019, expanded to convenience stores and supermarkets. ► Naver Pay – Introduced facial payments on university campuses; plans to launch its own terminal this year. ► Viva Republica (Toss) – Entered in February; distributed terminals with subsidies; now live in ~20,000 stores in Seoul. ► Lotte Card – Recently approved to launch; will start with facial payment services at airports. Experts foresee a “winner-takes-all” outcome, as merchants may avoid installing multiple terminals. Data security and liability concerns also hinder broader rollout. Exciting Insights on Stablecoins Official Link: https://lnkd.in/g8Mk3SwR EY-Parthenon report “Stablecoins in Focus: Navigating the New Digital Financial Landscape”, and it very clearly shows that stablecoins are no longer a niche topic and are becoming part of the global financial system. What is important to note: - Already 13% of companies use stablecoins, and another 54% plan to implement them in the near future. - Early adopters note a reduction in costs by more than 10%, especially in cross-border payments. - According to forecasts, by 2030 the share of stablecoins in global payments will reach 5-10% - this is $ 2.1-4.2 trillion. But the most interesting is yet to come: - Regulation (for example, the #GENIUS Act) will give businesses more confidence, and users protection. - Partnerships between banks, fintechs, and infrastructure players will accelerate mass adoption. - Stablecoins can become not only about transfers and payments, but also about new formats of savings, lending, and #DeFi services that will be built right into familiar banking and payment products. The future, as I see it: Stablecoins will become an "invisible layer" of financial infrastructure. The user may not even know that his payment went through a stablecoin, but at the same time, he will receive instantaneousness, low fees, and global coverage. Hong Kong’s Stablecoins Ordinance comes into effect today (1 August) and marks the implementation of the regulatory regime, introducing a robust regulatory framework for stablecoin issuers. We believe it is better for regulated stablecoin business, which is still in its infancy, to start with stricter regulations to ensure sound operation. With practical experience gained, we will be in a position to be flexible in certain areas. This will be a more suitable approach than dealing with the consequences left by lax regulations. ⚠ Important notice: Please be aware that, as of today, no licence has been issued by the HKMA.
