MIC Electronics Ltd has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Singapore based VC firm TOP2 PTE LTD to strengthen India’s semiconductor manufacturing capacity. Under this collaboration, MIC aims to begin wafer production in India with a target of 25,000 to 30,000 wafers per month by partnering with a Taiwanese fabrication firm. “By partnering with TOP2, we will be able to tap into proven global expertise and move at a faster pace on our journey to reduce import dependence and strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor landscape,” said Rakshit Mathur, CEO of MIC Electronics. TOP2 has already helped three Indian companies secure wafer production lines from the US, Europe and Japan this year. “This partnership with MIC allows us to bring together international expertise and local strength to make sure there is faster execution and greater resilience,” said Rao Panidapu, founding partner of TOP2. The agreement aligns with India’s $10 billion semiconductor mission and represents a step forward in building domestic chipmaking capabilities, reducing reliance on imports and positioning India as a competitive player in the global semiconductor industry.

Global #semiconductor player GlobalFoundries Asia Pacific's (GF) 300mm fab has become the sixth facility in Singapore to join the World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network! The network is a community of manufacturing leaders recognised for their use of Industry 4.0 technologies to drive productivity improvement, supply chain resilience, talent development, and sustainability ambitions. In the last 5 years alone, GF has deployed over 60 smart #manufacturing solutions here, leveraging AI, machine learning, IoT, and advanced analytics to optimise operations and reduce carbon footprint. This resulted in improved labour productivity and new product introduction prototyping times by 40% and 30% respectively. The facility also houses GF’s AI Centre of Excellence. GF has also focused on talent development including upskilling engineers and co-innovation with local solution providers and the academic community. Yew Kong Tan, GF’s SVP and GM for APAC Manufacturing and the Singapore facility, noted that Singapore plays a critical role in the company’s manufacturing footprint. “Through continuous investment in cutting-edge technologies and people, GF champions Singapore’s leadership in advanced manufacturing, reinforcing its position as a key global semiconductor manufacturing site.” Singapore has the highest number of WEF Lighthouse factories in Southeast Asia – making products from semiconductors to scientific instruments.
