MS Amlin announces the appointment of three new #reinsurance underwriters as it continues to expand its #APAC platform. Based in Singapore, Darren Toh, FCAS joins as Senior Underwriter. He brings close to a decade of experience from Nephila Capital, Markel’s Reinsurance arm, in Bermuda, with deep expertise in reinsurance underwriting, including insurance-linked securities (ILS) and binders. Darren will report to William Ho, CEO, MS Amlin APAC, and support the continued development of the reinsurance property catastrophe portfolio. His appointment is effective 6 October 2025. Yosuke Yasuda Yasuda has been named Senior Underwriter. Previously Head of Casualty for Asia and China at Aon, Yosuke led growth initiatives and advised cedants across the region. He also spent 17 years at Swiss Re as a Casualty Lead Underwriter, bringing extensive market knowledge and relationships that will enhance MS Amlin’s Specialty offering. His appointment is effective 13 October 2025, and he will also report to William Ho. A qualified actuary, Amirul Ashraf (PJ) joins as Underwriter. PJ moves from Malaysian Re, where he focused on international underwriting, risk, and capital management. His technical expertise and strong market reputation make him a valuable addition to the team. PJ will start on 5 January 2026, reporting to Ee Voon Teh, Underwriter. These appointments underscore MS Amlin’s commitment to growth in APAC and build on the momentum from the Australian branch opening earlier this year and the appointment of Matt Botfield as Head of Australia and New Zealand. Together, these developments strengthen the business’ regional presence and ability to deliver innovative solutions for clients. It’s not about replacing human advisors, rather, it's about making them sharper - meeting customers where they're at, when they need help the most, and earning the right to serve them with real value, at the right time 3️⃣ "𝐎𝐰𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤" 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - we explored the strategic advantage of full value-chain integration - from product and pricing to distribution. Swiss Re's recent report highlights a significant elevation in global insured losses from natural catastrophes, reaching an estimated $80 billion in the first half of 2025. The Palisades and Eaton wildfires in Los Angeles County alone resulted in insured losses of $40 billion, while severe convective storm (SCS) activity contributed another $31 billion in insured losses. The 2025 H1 insured loss total is the second highest on record, rivaled only by 2011’s first six months that saw major earthquakes in New Zealand and Japan. The recent elevated level of catastrophe activity is one reason why prices for property insurance have risen substantially in recent years. It's also a reminder that proactive risk mitigation should be embraced for more resilient structures and to take advantage of insurance discounts. Key implications: 👉Solvency ratios have recalibrated from 295% to 228%, revealing the true risk positions of insurers. 👉Companies with lean capital must reinforce resilience; those with excess reserves must deploy capital more productively. 👉RBC elevates the focus from regulatory compliance to long-term stability, policyholder protection, and strategic growth. While challenges remain — from data and actuarial capacity to system readiness — this transition is an opportunity to strengthen governance, foster innovation, and enhance trust in the industry. Computer vision AI can analyze photos of minor, clear-cut damages (e.g., water-logged interiors) and auto-approve them for settlement, freeing up human adjusters to focus on complex, high-value cases. At Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, our tools include a digital flood claim assistant that leverages AI to recognize a flood situation from a simple image or a voice note, providing the customer with an instant claim number and guiding them on immediate next steps. We also leverage satellite imagery and geospatial analytics to identify the most severely impacted areas in a flood event.
