Details from the US-Japan trade deal: -- Both reciprocal tariffs and auto tariffs will go down to 15% (from 25%) -- There is no limit to the number of cars Japan can export under the 15% rate (unlike the UK deal which caps the low-rate export to 100,000 cars) -- The 15% reciprocal tariff will not be imposed on top of any existing tariffs. Any tariff on Japanese goods will be capped at 15% (Except for steel and aluminum, 50%, which is not part of the deal) -- Japan will not reduce its tariffs, including on agriculture -- Japan will keep its 770,000 ton quota of tariff-free rice imports. However, it will increase the share of US rice within that quota -- The much-watched increase of Japan's defense spending is not part of the agreement

General Motors is under pressure to clarify its plans for the future of a key manufacturing hub in South Korea, as the country’s trade talks with the Trump administration to mitigate steep car tariffs remain unresolved. GM Korea’s two carmaking plants produce affordable compact vehicles, principally for the North American market, accounting for nearly 17 per cent of the group’s US vehicle sales. Why Japan's Car Industry Can Withstand US Tariffs and China's EV Challenge I'll admit, the title of my new focus piece in JapanMarkt (magazine of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (AHK Japan)) sounds optimistic. The challenges are undeniable - especially Japan's lag in the EV race. But after speaking with industry insiders, there are compelling reasons for cautious optimism, at least for some manufacturers and suppliers. Key insights from my conversations: 🔧 Suppliers still can thrive in Japan: Christian MECKER, the new head of Bosch Japan, shared how the world's largest automotive supplier is growing both in Japan and globally through partnerships with Japanese transplants. 🏇 Stability in uncertainty: Go Goeltinger, Mercedes-Benz Japan G.K. CEO and head of importer association JAIA, offered an intriguing perspective on Japan's shrinking car market: "Japan is always a stable horse" - predictable and reliable even in turbulent times. 🤝 Cooperative advantage: One of my key takeaways is that Japanese automakers maintain a more collaborative relationship with their suppliers compared to other markets - a competitive edge often overlooked. Through its wholly owned subsidiary Sailun (Shenyang) Tire Co., Ltd., Sailun Group intends to purchase 100 per cent equity in Bridgestone (Shenyang) Tire Co., Ltd. (BSSY), Bridgestone Corporation’s truck and bus radial tyre manufacturing operation in China. Sailun will pay RMB 265 million (£27.5 million / US$37.0 million) for the business.

Doosan Mobility Innovation (DMI), a leader in hydrogen fuel cell technology, has developed the world’s first commercialized hydrogen fuel cell power pack that delivers breakthrough energy density, about 4 – 5 times that of a battery, enabling drones to fly for up to 2 hours. To achieve high-efficiency and high-energy density in the power delivery network (PDN), Doosan selected Vicor PRM™ buck-boost regulators and a Vicor ZVS buck regulator. The PRMs support up to 74V open-circuit voltage (OCV) of the hydrogen fuel cell stack and perform a stable voltage regulation to 48V. In the drone’s rotor-side, two PRM buck-boost regulators are configured in parallel to supply the 12A required by the rotors. The PDN for the digital controller board in the stack uses a lower-power PRM followed by a 48V – 12V ZVS buck regulator.
