📢 Singtel and our consortium partners —Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, ARTERIA Networks, Chunghwa Telecom Co, Ltd., 드림라인(Dreamline), Globe Telecom, Telekom Malaysia and Unified National Networks (UNN) — have officially signed an agreement to build the Asia United Gateway East (AUG East) submarine cable system. Targeted for completion in 2029, the 8,900 km high-capacity cable will connect Singapore and Japan, with Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan. It is designed to strengthen and improve network diversity and reliability along this important route, driving connectivity for AI innovation and digital growth in the region. AUG East will complement existing submarine cable systems by providing additional bandwidth to meet growing demand for reliable and low-latency data access and enable cable resilience in the event of natural disasters like earthquakes. Singtel is one of the most technically experienced consortium partners with a long history and expertise in submarine cable investments in the region. These investments include the Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 6 and Southeast Asia - Japan 2 cable systems, totalling more than 195,000 km and covering over 30 countries. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to advancing digital inclusion and catalysing economic growth across the region. Gorilla is building Southeast Asia’s AI backbone. We have signed a landmark three-year contract valued at US$1.4 billion with Freyr Singapore to deploy a network of AI-powered data centres across Southeast Asia. Phase One kicks off with a US$300 million deployment in Indonesia, launching Q4 2025. Leading the charge on AI infrastructure, GPU-as-a-Service deployment and multi-year SLA operations, our proprietary AI stack will power regional co-location facilities, backed by real-time orchestration and monitoring systems in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Freyr joins us as our regional expansion partner, bringing deep execution capability and shared vision. As our CEO Jay Chandan puts it: “To already have secured a first customer of this calibre, a multi-billion-dollar telco with unmatched scale and reputation, is a powerful validation of Gorilla’s capability.” The shift from hyperscale to regionally intelligent infrastructure has begun, and Gorilla is leading it.
