Kajol, Rani Mukerji and Ayan Mukerji share heartfelt moments at family Durga Puja, miss Deb Mukherjee during the festivities
Actresses and cousins Kajol and Rani Mukerji reunited on Saturday to participate in their family’s annual Durga Puja tradition, marking the beginning of the festive celebrations. Alongside sister Tanishaa Mukerji, the trio appeared joyful as the North Bombay Durga Puja pandal unveiled the first look of its Goddess Durga idol.
Amid the celebrations, the cousins turned emotional while remembering Ayan Mukerji’s father, Deb Mukherjee, who passed away in March 2025. Deb Mukherjee had been the one to organise the family’s Durga Puja pandal every year.
In a touching clip, Kajol, Rani, and Tanishaa were seen embracing each other, visibly moved. Kajol also shared a heartfelt hug with Ayan before posing for photographs together, capturing the warmth and closeness of the family.
The family dressed for the occasion in traditional attire. Kajol looked elegant in a silk saree paired with a red blouse, while Rani chose a white saree with a black and red floral border. Ayan complemented the festive mood in a white kurta-pyjama, keeping the look simple yet celebratory.
Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsava or Sharodotsava, is a Hindu festival celebrating the goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasur. According to Hindu mythology, the goddess visits her earthly abode during this time to bless devotees. This year, the celebrations begin on September 28 (Shashthi) and conclude on October 2 (Vijayadashami).
