The Alexanders are at it again!
Former NFL star Shaun Alexander is in the news again, and not for a new football feat, but for an update on his growing family. The 2005 NFL MVP recently revealed that he and his wife, Valerie Alexander, are expecting their 14th child. Married since 2002, the couple already has 13 children – 10 daughters and 3 sons.
Notably, this news of the latest addition to their family comes amid widespread interest in how they balance fame, parenting, faith, and public life.
Now, although people are already aware of Shaun, many aren’t well-versed with his wife. So, who is Valerie Alexander?
Who is Valerie Alexander?
Valerie Alexander (née Boyd) has been married to Shaun since April 2002, after about two years of courtship. Shaun, best known for his career with the Seattle Seahawks and his standout 2005 season in which he won the NFL MVP award, has always kept family at the center of his life. Originally from Florence, Kentucky, while Shaun played college football at the University of Alabama before entering the NFL in 2000, Valerie stood by him through thick and thin. The two met before his NFL fame fully blossomed, courted for two years, and were married in April 2002.
Valerie is often described as a supportive partner. She has shared many quiet moments of raising their children, homeschooling them, and building a family grounded in faith. They attend church together, share their values openly, and live in a way that emphasizes love, faith, and unity. Shaun, the Seahawks’ all-time leading rusher, has time and again said that their marriage is built on friendship, trust, and shared purpose.
Shaun, Valerie, and their growing family
Shaun and Valerie have had 13 children so far – 10 daughters and 3 sons. They are Heaven, Trinity, Eden, Joseph, Justus, Temple, Honor, Jedidiah, Eternity, Hosanna, Hope, Judea, and Heaven, with one child, Torah, who died in 2017 at just two months old.
On September 25, Shaun announced that Valerie is pregnant with their 14th child. He revealed this on the “Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams,” saying, “We’re just now starting to tell people, but number 14 is in the belly.” He did not mention the baby’s sex or due date.
Despite the large family, Shaun and Valerie have dealt with loss, and they remember their daughter, Torah, with deep love. After she passed away in 2017, they spoke publicly about their grief and how their faith had helped them through. Valerie expressed that those painful 70 days with Torah were a blessing in their eyes, even if heartache followed.
Blending the public life with the personal one
While Shaun Alexander grew in fame on the football field – setting records, making Pro Bowls, and leaving a legacy with the Seahawks – he transitioned into life as a husband, father, and public figure with humility. Valerie has played a role behind the scenes: supporting homeschooling, managing the household, nurturing values, and maintaining a stable home environment. The couple often shares glimpses of family life on social media, showing joy, sibling bonding, and celebrations. That’s not all. Their faith is also central to their shared life. As born-again Christians, Shaun and Valerie have spoken about how their beliefs inform their parenting, their decisions, and how they deal with loss and challenges. As their family grows yet again, their bond, belief, and shared journey continue to impress and inspire many who look on.
