In a major anti-Naxal operation in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district, security forces killed 10 Maoists, including senior CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member Modem Balkrishna, who carried a ₹1 crore bounty. The fierce encounter took place in the Mainpur region and involved STF, COBRA, and E-30 units acting on intelligence inputs. SP Nikhil Rakhecha confirmed the operation's success. In a separate crackdown in Bijapur district, police arrested 26 active Maoists, including six with cash rewards totaling ₹13 lakh. Explosives, IEDs, bombs, wires, and propaganda materials were recovered. Several of the arrested were militia commanders and committee members who admitted to planning attacks. All accused have been remanded to judicial custody and multiple cases registered.
