Today, as the world commemorates World Food Day, we at aBi Development join partners, farmers, and agribusinesses across Uganda in reflecting on the power of collaboration to transform our food systems, ensuring that every plate tells a story of sustainability, inclusion, and resilience. Under the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” we reaffirm our commitment to building inclusive, climate-smart agrifood systems that nourish communities and sustain livelihoods. Through the Green Agrifood Systems Programme (GRASP), we are catalysing Uganda’s transition toward greener, more productive, and equitable agriculture. From supporting smallholder farmers to adopt climate-smart practices, restoring wetlands, and promoting sustainable coffee and grain value chains, to fostering digital innovation, access to finance, and green enterprise development, our mission is clear, a food-secure Uganda where farmers thrive, agribusinesses grow, and the environment flourishes. In the past year alone, we have: - Supported Uganda’s compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) — protecting over USD 2.2 billion in annual coffee exports. - Mobilised partners to invest in climate-resilient production systems and inclusive financing for women and youth. - Advanced the Empowering Young Women Entrepreneurs through Coffee (EYE-C) programme, creating pathways for 300,000 young women to lead in agribusiness. - Championed the shift to agrifood clustering, unlocking regional growth and innovation. As we look ahead, our focus remains on partnership and purpose, working with government, the private sector, and development partners to strengthen Uganda’s position as a model of green, inclusive, and sustainable agriculture. Because when farmers prosper, when youth find opportunity, when women lead, we all move toward a better food future. #WorldFoodDay #BetterFoodBetterFuture #Sustainability #AgrifoodSystems #ClimateSmartAgriculture #InclusiveGrowth #Uganda #aBiDevelopment

#ICYMI What keeps you awake at night?” It’s a question leaders are asked time and again, but should sleeplessness really define leadership? True leadership isn’t about constant anxiety; it’s about building strong governance systems, empowered teams, and resilient cultures that let leaders rest easy while focusing on the future. Because the best leaders don’t just stay awake worrying, they sleep well, knowing their institutions are prepared for tomorrow — Writes Max Manzi Read Full Details here https://lnkd.in/dcnz4aR7

As we celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, the Empowering Young Women Entrepreneurs in Agriculture Stimulated by Coffee (EYE-C) programme reaffirms its commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for young women and girls in Uganda’s coffee value chain. Implemented by aBi Development, Cafe Africa Uganda and the IWCA Uganda, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, the programme seeks to empower 300,000 young women to access decent work and thrive through coffee, as farmers, entrepreneurs, innovators, and change-makers. While implementation teams are still preparing to enter the field, this moment offers an important reminder of why we do what we do: to build a future where every girl has the skills, confidence, and opportunity to succeed. Through skills development, financial inclusion, market access, and gender-responsive approaches, EYE-C will unlock the potential of Uganda’s young women, advancing equality, sustainability, and prosperity for all. aBi Development has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with A.P. Moller - Maersk, one of the world’s leading logistics companies, to explore transformative opportunities within Northern Uganda’s agricultural value chains. This strategic partnership underscores our shared vision of building an efficient, resilient, and inclusive agrifood logistics system that supports Uganda’s long-term competitiveness and sustainability. Through this collaboration, aBi Development and Maersk will explore the feasibility of establishing a modern, multi-commodity Inland Logistics and Storage Hub in Northern Uganda. The initiative will focus on developing efficient inbound and outbound logistics solutions for agricultural commodities such as grains, oilseeds, fruits, vegetables, fertilizers, farm chemicals, and seeds. Beyond infrastructure, the partnership will facilitate technology and knowledge transfer in modern warehousing, cold chain management, and supply chain optimisation—creating an enabling environment for agribusiness growth. Together, we aim to de-risk agricultural value chains, expand market access for smallholder farmers, and enhance the competitiveness of Ugandan agribusinesses. The partnership will also work to attract and leverage further investment from both public and private sources to unlock the region’s agricultural potential. This collaboration represents a significant milestone in aBi’s broader mission to cluster Uganda around efficient, climate-smart, and market-driven food systems. By combining Maersk’s global logistics expertise with aBi’s experience in agrifood development, we are setting in motion a new chapter for Northern Uganda, one defined by connectivity, opportunity, and sustainable prosperity. This week, a high-level delegation from the Embassy of Denmark in Uganda, CIMBRIA, A.P. Moller - Maersk, TradeMark Africa, and aBi - Agricultural Business Initiative embarked on a strategic mission to #Gulu District to explore the potential for establishing a complete #cereals #value #chain in #Northern #Uganda. The mission showcased Northern Uganda’s immense potential to reclaim its place as the region’s grain powerhouse. From #Asili Farms in Kiryandongo—where the team experienced the #AMSAF #digital #farm management platform linking farmers, input dealers, and financiers—to ZARA Millers in Oyam, and Equator Seeds Ltd in Omoro, the team witnessed firsthand the infrastructure and innovation already taking shape. At the Gulu Logistics Hub, a Government of Uganda facility supported by the @UK Government's Department for International Development (DFID), TradeMark Africa, Denmark, and others, discussions focused on unlocking its promise to handle regional cargo flowing to South Sudan and the DRC. The visit to the #West #Acholi #Cooperative #Union (#WACU) reignited conversations on restoring the cooperative’s central role in regional cereal production, leveraging its 7,000-acre footprint in Amuru. The mission concluded at the #NEC Agro Facility in Kiryandongo, where the delegation witnessed one of Uganda’s most advanced grain management systems, capable of cleaning and drying 30MT of grain per hour and storing up to 6,000MT. At aBi Development, we are proud to contribute to this transformative journey, clustering Uganda’s regions around agrifood systems that create value, build resilience, and unlock inclusive growth. Together, we’re building a cereals ecosystem that can feed nations and fuel prosperity across East Africa. How can development finance and data-driven lending unlock opportunities for the last mile? aBi Finance CEO, Mona Muguma Ssebuliba, will be joining the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) panel at the 7th Annual FITSPA Uganda FINTECH Conference to explore this question. She will be in conversation with richard ndahiro, Andrew Wilobo (Mastercard Foundation), and Joseph Sanjula Lutwama (Financial Sector Deepening Uganda (FSD Uganda) to discuss how development partners can nurture and scale innovative financing models that reach underserved market segments. Zianah Nyiramanza Muddu Noah Owomugisha Outbox Uganda
Every day across Uganda, micro and small businesses open their doors with big dreams but limited means. From the tailor in Gulu to the boda mechanic in Jinja, access to finance often determines whether those dreams survive or stall. That’s why at the 7th FITSPA Annual Fintech Conference 2025, we’re asking the big question: How can development finance and data-driven lending unlock opportunities for the last mile? Guiding us will be richard ndahiro from United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), whose work with FinWise puts inclusion at the center. He’ll be steering a discussion with voices that are shaping the future of finance: •Andrew Wilobo of Mastercard Foundation bringing the tech perspective on scaling lending solutions. •Mona Muguma Ssebuliba, CEO of ABI DEVELOPMENT, INC., who knows firsthand what it takes to fuel small business growth. •Joseph Sanjula Lutwama from Financial Sector Deepening Uganda (FSD Uganda), translating research and insights into action for sustainable change. This isn’t just another panel. It’s where ideas meet action for the businesses that power Uganda. #FITSPA2025 #FintechForGrowth #MSMEs #FinancialInclusion #Innovation

Today, on World Coffee Day 2025, we celebrate the remarkable transformation of Uganda’s coffee sector, a story of resilience, partnership, and shared ambition. At the Jinja Agricultural Show Grounds, the heart of this year’s celebrations, we reflect on a journey that has not only uplifted millions of smallholder farmers but also positioned Uganda as a global coffee powerhouse. From 9 million bags and $2 billion in exports, to ambitious steps towards the 20 million bags coffee roadmap, Uganda is steadily climbing into the ranks of the world’s top five coffee exporters. At aBi Development, we are proud to have dedicated significant resources to strengthen value chains—particularly coffee and dairy—where impact has been most visible. Our work on EUDR compliance ensured Uganda embraced sustainability not as a burden, but as an opportunity to align trade, environment, and farmer prosperity. As one colleague remarked, “When the lion is in the kraal, you dedicate all resources to get rid of that problem.” That has been our spirit in ensuring Uganda’s coffee meets global standards while protecting the environment. None of this would be possible without strong collaboration. We thank the Government of Uganda, especially the @Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, for their leadership. We also extend deep appreciation to our partners—the Royal Danish Embassy, the European Union, and the Mastercard Foundation, for standing shoulder to shoulder with us in this long-term journey. Together, we are building a coffee sector that is greener, more inclusive, and globally competitive. Here’s to Uganda’s farmers—the true champions of this transformation. #WorldCoffeeDay #UgandaCoffee #EUDR #Sustainability #PartnershipsForImpact
