Here's some GOOD news about where YouTube meets TV... MIPCOM, you have my heart. THAT'S how you embrace the Creator Economy (other events, please take note). This morning's The Hollywood Reporter headline "From Streamer to Superpower: How YouTube Stole the Show at MIPCOM" says it all. It was my first time ever setting foot in Cannes, after hearing Joshua Barnett wax lyrical about it for many many years, and I'll admit I was arriving as a sceptic. I've attended many TV and advertising events where the pure existence of YouTube, along with its existential threat to the status quo and the massive opportunity it offers to brands and broadcasters if they embrace it, is completely ignored. In fact, I landed in MIPCOM fresh from the advertising festival Ciclope, where I didn't hear the word YouTube or Creator uttered once(?!), which BLEW MY MIND for an industry dedicated to helping brands reach consumers but ignoring the viewing habits of anyone under the age of 30 - but that's a conversation for another day. SO when I arrived at MIPCOM to see the streets literally plastered with giant billboards of Nella Rose's face, saw the schedule peppered with talks about how TV land can embrace YouTube, and heard the overwhelmingly positive sentiment and excitement around how these two worlds can and will collide, I couldn't stop smiling (evidence in the pic below). Was a privilege to touch the stage alongside Callum McGinley [Callux], Specs Gonzalez and Nella Rose as we talked about After Party Studios' approach to creating entertainment formats on the audience's terms - and to announce The Nella Rose Show, coming to a screen near you very soon. Last night I landed back in London excited, inspired, and encouraged by what I've just witnessed: the beginning of a convergence that ultimately means good things for all sides, most importantly, audiences. Thank you to Lucy Smith 🔜 MIPCOM CANNES and Caroline Bernet 🔜 MIPCOM CANNES at MIPCOM for wrapping your arms around Creators and creating fertile ground for these conversations to take place. #MIPCOM #CreatorEconomy
