Greggs is back at it again! The immensely popular bakery brand often has a trick up its sleeve when it comes to retail activations, and this year is no different. Another busy month of events at Fanatics Collectibles, a September full of Sports and Trading. We celebrated the start of the new football season with the launch of the Premier League Hobby Box – At the Collectors’ Hub, guests traded with others and expanded their collections, making it the perfect mix of competition, community, and collectibles. They could also go head-to-head in an interactive football gameshow, put their knowledge to the test with match predictions to win big prizes. We also hosted a London Card Show x Fanatics Collectibles Trade Night – The event featured dedicated trading zones, extra tables, and a guided trade desk to support newcomers. Big-name collectors, creators, and pro streamers were in attendance, along with an in-house DJ, prize raffles, a media wall, and mascot appearances. It sounds like a bit of a cliché, but one of the most exciting things about growing our business is the opportunity it creates for new talent to join us. We’ve grown a lot over the last 5 years or so (and we’re still going! 🚀 ) and whilst I can’t say we always get it right when new experts join the team, its always incredible to see how all our cultures and experience mix together and make us better. We’re an unusual company – we need to attract people who are the very best at managing and improving physical retail stores alongside wanting to be entrepreneurial and experiential in their mindset; and to work on behalf of other retail businesses. But generally we get it right; our retention is excellent and in our retail business, we haven’t had someone choose to leave us in nearly 18 months. That consistency just makes our service offer and our operations slicker and better for our customers. Every now and then we have a ‘crop’ of new joiners who really improve our business, almost from day 1, with the experience and energy that they bring. Delighted to see that happen now as Henry Fogden (looking after retail growth strategy), Hannah G. (looking after me!), Kevin May (leading our US Finance team) and Laura Hendrick (managing retail store builds) have all joined us in the last few weeks and, I can safely say, are all making an immediate impact! 💡 There’s something really energising about growth, and new people bringing their skills to an already very talented group. What are your thoughts on a car-free Oxford Street? Whether you're for or against the idea, the narrative surrounding this initiative has been interesting to watch unfold. "We are fighting back to save a dying high street" is the emerging narrative, a bit of sensationalism in our opinion! Fighting back for Oxford Street is a noble and necessary endeavour, and one we can get behind, but dying? We're not so sure... There's no denying the turbulence that the high street has experienced in the last decade, but dying? Oxford Street still draws massive foot traffic and ranks among the few prime retail zones around the globe with extremely low vacancy (0.5% according to a Savills Report). From where we're standing, retail in central London is thriving. Just take a look at the Fanatics Flagship we operate, a $25 million store that has tripled projections.
