Hello! My partner, Vics is fundraising for Childhood Eye Cancer Trust - an amazing organisation that has been incredibly supportive to my friend and colleague, Joey Underhay and his family. Little Freddie Underhay carries a mutation in the RB1 gene which plays a crucial role in controlling cell growth. When this gene is faulty, cells in the retina can grow abnormally, leading to the development of tumours. This condition is known as Retinoblastoma- a rare and aggressive form of eye cancer. Freddie has been undergoing systemic chemotherapy to shrink the tumours in his eyes and to save his vision - and most importantly- his life. Freddie will need ongoing treatment, monitoring and specialist care to ensure that any further tumour growth is detected and treated as soon as possible. CHECT provides vital support to children and families who are facing the reality of childhood cancer. Yesterday, we came together for our charity football match in aid of CHECT (Childhood Eye Cancer Trust), who have been supporting our Head of Training, Joey and his family following his new-born son’s Retinoblastoma diagnosis. The turnout was fantastic - from those who took to the pitch to those who came along to cheer - and we’re so grateful for the energy, generosity, and team spirit shown by everyone involved.
