BCRRE are looking forward to playing a key role in one of these projects - "Bridge Aware – Real-Time Prevention, Detection and Mitigation of Bridge Strikes on Rail Bridges" - which proposes an integrated two-part solution to address the persistent challenge of bridge strikes on the UK rail network. The project has the potential to make a real difference to the resilience of the railway system and to reduce disruption to passenger journeys. This project is funded by the Department for Transport through the First of a Kind 2025 competition delivered by Innovate UK. I am really excited to be hosting a workshop - “Transport Research and Policy: Knowledge Exchange Towards a Shared Agenda” - on the 26 August in Birmingham. This is a collaboration with the Transport Geographies Research Group of the Royal Geographical Society and fellow academics at the University of Birmingham. This workshop will bring academics and policymakers together in dialogue towards a shared understanding of current research needs and policy priorities at the intersection of transport geographies research. Putting people, place and placemaking at the forefront of the conversation. Participants will learn from policymakers about their priorities and where research may be able to inform these. The session will also include the opportunity for academics to share pertinent research insights and approaches. The afternoon will include opportunities to learn from practitioners and researchers with experience of working within diverse policy contexts. Sharing insights on how academic research can inform the policy process and how to effectively engage with policymakers.
