How Wirral Families Are Helping Shape the Future of Medicine Every umbilical cord that’s usually discarded holds potential: stem cells and unique biological material that could unlock new treatments for conditions like leukaemia, arthritis, brain tumours, and more. Through our partnership with hospitals such as Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust , BioGrad is enabling parents to donate cord tissue and blood safely, ethically, and voluntarily. This initiative helps drive research that might lead to earlier diagnoses and better patient outcomes nationwide. 🔥 👏 WUTH has partnered with laboratory specialist BioGrad to support transformative research using donated umbilical cords to advance regenerative medicine and cancer care across the UK. This programme, now available to WUTH’s maternity service users, enables families to donate umbilical cord blood and tissue post-birth. These safe, anonymous, non-invasive donations are supporting vital studies into many conditions including historically underfunded areas such as women's health and childhood genetic disorders. Angela Kerrigan, Consultant Midwife at WUTH, said: “Donating an umbilical cord is a simple and generous act which could help unlock the next generation of treatments for a range of serious conditions.” The project reflects WUTH’s ongoing commitment to patient-led research and innovation, with over 40 active studies currently underway across the Trust. 📢 Learn more about this impactful partnership and how it could benefit future generations: https://shorturl.at/l8fI5 #HealthcareInnovation #RegenerativeMedicine #MedicalResearch #WomenInSTEM #CancerResearch #NHS #WirralResearch #BioGrad #ClinicalResearch #WUTH #FutureOfMedicine #WomensHealth #ChildhoodGeneticDisorders BioGrad Dr Natalie Kenny Dr Angela Kerrigan

On Friday evening, BioGrad proudly hosted its inaugural Black Tie Gala at the iconic The Royal Liver Building, celebrating over a decade of excellence in healthcare, education, and scientific research. We were honoured to welcome more than 100 esteemed guests, including midwives, surgeons, healthcare leaders, baby scanning clinic partners, and representatives from four leading universities currently utilising our cord blood samples for vital research. The evening also brought together key figures from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, whose presence and support further strengthen our shared vision for innovation and meaningful collaboration across the region. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a resounding success. A special highlight of the night was the announcement that our CEO, Dr Natalie Kenny, will be participating in this year’s Liverpool Women’s Hospital Strictly Come Dancing Event, proudly taking the baton from our Clinical Director, Jay Fitzgerald. You can support Natalie and donate to this incredible cause via her JustGiving page: JustGiving - https://lnkd.in/efyZX5Nx We were delighted to have Dave Panther as our host, who brilliantly shared BioGrad’s story, our values, and the exciting collaborations we are building across the healthcare and academic landscape. The success of the evening would not have been possible without the dedication and professionalism The BioGrad Marketing Team. We also extend our gratitude to the outstanding Liver Building team, whose support helped create a truly memorable event. This gala marks a significant milestone in BioGrad’s journey, and we look forward to continued progress in driving innovation, advancing medical research, and supporting healthcare education for years to come. Here’s to a future shaped by collaboration, compassion, and scientific discovery. #BioGradGala #BlackTieEvent #LiverpoolCityRegion #HealthcareInnovation #MedicalResearch #StrictlyComeDancing #LiverpoolEvents #CollaborationInScience Liverpool Womens Hospital Charity, NHS, NHS England NHS Cheshire and Merseyside, Liverpool Health Partners, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LCL), Health Innovation North West Coast, Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, University of Chester, Edge Hill University, University of Liverpool, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Microbiome Innovation Centre, University of York, Bouygues Energies & Services, Liverpool China Partnership, Mast Group Ltd, Ocuwell, Trinity Logistics Limited, Steve Rotherham, Liverpool City Council, Merseyside Against Blood Cancers, Ghosh Medical Group, Ultrasound Best, Jayne Moore, Geraldine Fuller, Gary Millar FJMU, Heath Thomas, Loren Slade, Lynn Greenhalgh
