Have you ever heard of a bothy? Tucked away in some of the UK’s most remote landscapes, a bothy is a simple shelter or cottage, usually left unlocked and free for anyone to use. 🏴Many are hidden away in the Scottish Highlands and Islands and were once working buildings that fell into disrepair. The Mountain Bothies Association restores and maintains these shelters, ensuring they continue to provide refuge for hillwalkers and adventurers 🙂. Varying in size and layout, some have sleeping areas, a small kitchen, a fireplace and access to fresh water nearby. No two are the same and it’s best to arrive prepared and expect very little - which is all part of the fun! So… what do you think? Fancy an adventure and spending a night in a Scottish bothy? ⛰️ 1. 📷IG/mywildscotland 2. 📷IG/simonhird 3. 📷IG/with.patrick 4. 📷 IG/thenorthernbushpig #Scotland #Bothy #Adventure

Did you know Scotland’s land, seas and skies are home to over 90,000 species? From playful otters to soaring sea eagles, these are just a few of the creatures that make Scotland special. We're working for a future where nature truly thrives - but we’re facing a climate and nature emergency, with 1 in 9 species in Scotland at risk of extinction. Every one of us has a part to play in protecting and restoring Scotland’s natural environment, before important species are lost forever💚🌿. 1.📷IG/the_23rd_pixel 2.📷IG/climber_with_a_camera 3.📷IG/alastairmarshphotography 4.📷IG/henleyspiers 5.📷IG/Inicodormoy 6.📷IG/tomjohnelliswild #Scotland #WildLife #ScottishWildlife

It’s LGBT+ History Month - a chance to celebrate the incredible impact LGBT+ people have had on Scotland 🏴. This year’s theme, Science and Innovation, highlights LGBT+ pioneers who have helped shape our world. Like James Barry - a Scottish‑educated surgeon behind one of the first successful C‑sections, and Caroline McIntosh - a biomedical scientist championing inclusion in STEM💙. Celebrating their stories reminds us that LGBT+ people have always been central to Scotland’s history, progress and equality 🏳️🌈. 📷IG/apesara #LGBTHistoryMonth #LGBT #Scotland

Hi, it’s Laurie up in Shetland! On Tuesday we celebrated Up Helly Aa in Lerwick, and the whole town was buzzing. 🔥 The day began with the Guizer Jarl and his squad leading the morning procession alongside their stunning galley. Crowds braved the cold to admire the Viking suits, read the satirical Bill, and soak up the festival atmosphere. From January to March, Shetland’s famous fire festivals brighten our long winter nights. Since 1876, the torchlit procession has grown to 1,000 torchbearers - one of the most spectacular sights you’ll ever see. As the streetlights go dark and the torches flare to life, Lerwick glows with fiery magic. After the galley burn, the celebrations carry on with music, dancing, food, and the odd dram. Up Helly Aa is Shetland’s ultimate celebration of heritage, community, and pure firelit joy✨. AD. 📽️IG/shetlandwithlaurie #UpHellyAa #Scotland #Shetland
