💟 Share this post with a friend or family member who might need support with keeping well this winter 💟 Five tips on looking after yourself ❄️ 🚶 Eat well and stay active. Eating regularly helps keep you warm so try to have at least one hot meal a day along with regular hot drinks. Staying active generates heat and helps to keep you warm so when you’re inside, try to move about every hour or so. If you find walking difficult, you could try some simple chair-based exercises while sitting or holding onto the back of a chair. 🧣 Keep yourself warm. Layer clothing, wear a hat and gloves when outside to insulate your extremities, wrap up in blankets when indoors. 🏠 Create a warm environment. Insulating your home not only keeps you warm but will also help to keep your energy costs down. 💜 Look after each other. Encourage the older people you know to look after their health – one of the easiest ways to do this is to make sure they've had their free flu jab. ☕Try to make time for relatives, friends and neighbours. Darker nights and cold weather can make it harder for people to get out and about and we can all end up feeling lonely or out of sorts. Calling for a chat, popping in for a brew or even sending a card in the post can really help let someone know you're thinking about them helping them 💷 Seek support - We’ve set out below a number of services and organisations that provide support in a wide range of ways. This Saturday, some incredible volunteers will be creating the Garden of Remembrance as we prepare for this year’s Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day services. Over approximately 7 hours, they will carefully place nearly 3,500 remembrance crosses, 20 conflict crosses, and four special crosses to honour the towns’ Victoria Cross recipients. These white crosses remain unnamed, reflecting the poignant symbolism of the "Tomb of the Unknown Warrior". A plaque in the garden will share a brief history for those who wish to learn more. If you’d like to honour someone personally, you can purchase a brown wooden cross from the Poppy Shop in Burnley Town Centre (formerly Game, near Marks & Spencer’s). The shop is open 10am-3 pm, Monday to Saturday, starting Thursday, 23 October. These crosses can be placed in the designated area at the front right of the garden. We kindly ask that you respect the white crosses already in place, preserving their silent tribute to the unknown. Thank you for helping us honour and remember.
