Remembering Ricky Hatton: ‘The people’s champion’
Ricky Hatton joined CALM as an ambassador in 2023, and worked tirelessly for over a decade to share his story and help as many people as possible.
Ricky was a true fighter in and outside of the ring. He fought to make mental health support available to everyone and made having life-saving conversations easier for untold numbers of people. We know from our helpline feedback that his story helped many people to get vital support.
We worked extensively with Ricky to raise awareness of suicide, and this involved sharing his story. Ricky was passionate about raising awareness so others could find the help they needed. He did everything in his power so others wouldn’t have to go through the experiences he did.
In his first interview with CALM, Ricky said that he believed his job was to help people. He said: “Bad times won’t last forever - you think they will, but they won’t if you go and speak to someone. No one should ever be scared to admit they need help. I promise you, it’s the best thing you’ll ever do”.
If you’re struggling now, or with the news of Ricky’s death, remember help is available. There is always a reason to Stay.

Finally, we want to take a moment to thank Ricky for the work he did, the impact he made, and the legacy he has created. May he rest in peace.
Take care,
The entire CALM team.
