From classroom to conversation. This week, we hosted a special screening of the Educating Yorkshire grand finale at the University of Leeds – bringing together teachers, local leaders, and community voices for an evening that was part reunion, part reflection, and part inspiration. After watching the final episode, our panel explored the realities facing today’s schools – from the many roles teachers have to play, to teenagers’ phone usage and the pressures of social media. Speakers included: ✨ Matthew Burton – Headteacher, Thornhill Community Academy ✨ Zoe Ali – Deputy Head, Thornhill Community Academy ✨ Musharaf Asghar – Former student and keynote speaker ✨ Grace Reynolds – Executive Producer, Twofour ✨ Olivia Bailey MP – Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Early Education and Equalities, Department for Education ✨ Shabaz Ali – Teacher and influencer Educating Yorkshire remains one of Channel 4’s most powerful reminders of what public service storytelling can do - shining a light on everyday heroes and the transformative power of education. Channel 4 is a publicly-owned and commercially-funded UK public service broadcaster.
About us
Channel 4 is free-to-air and freely available to all of the UK. We have the UK’s biggest free streaming service, plus a network of six television channels. Since Channel 4 was created in 1982, it has been at the centre of national conversations and a catalyst for the creation of a world-beating production sector in the UK. Our purpose is to create change through entertainment. We do this by representing unheard voices, challenging with purpose and reinventing entertainment. Our unique model – commercially-funded but publicly-owned – means that we’re able to offer independent and distinctive, universal content reflecting the interests of different communities across the UK. As a publisher-broadcaster, Channel 4 commissions UK content from the independent production sector and currently works with around 300 creative companies across the UK every year. We have the youngest-skewing public service channel in the UK – and we reach more 16-34-year-olds than any other commercial broadcaster across streaming and TV. Through Film4, Channel 4 invests in British filmmakers to huge critical acclaim, winning 43 Oscars and 97 BAFTAs since inception. Channel 4’s board ensures that we fulfil our remit and deliver our financial responsibilities. Channel 4 will never request bank details from job applicants in connection with a job offer. Any official job offers will only be made through Channel Four Television Corporation directly, and not through any subsidiaries. Please remain cautious and report any suspicious communications claiming to represent Channel 4.
