‘I came here, and it just clicked in my brain, that’s what I want to do!’💡 This #TLevelsWeek, we are spotlighting voices from some of our learners on the impact T Levels have had on their future career prospects. From building confidence to securing apprenticeships, here is what some students from Middlesbrough College had to say: 💬 ‘It gives you a lot of experience for actual work so I’m not just coming out of college with a qualification, I’m coming out with actual experience.’ | Alex, T Level learner 💬 ‘Something that greatly helped during the interviews was being able to say I’ve had 315 hours on an engineering site. I can talk not only about the theoretical aspects but the practical as well.’ | Oscar, T Level learner 💬 ‘It’s definitely increased my confidence; I’ve got a degree apprenticeship after this.’ | Colbie, T Level learner T Levels are helping to shape young learners and give them real world experiences as they step into their careers. Celebrate T Levels Week with #TLevelsWeek and share how they have supported your future. 💪 #TLevelsWeek #TLevels #CityandGuilds #MiddlesbroughCollege

Great to hear Damian Hinds MP reflect on how T Levels are making a difference. By blending technical learning with extended industry placements, they’re equipping young people with the confidence, skills and experience to succeed in work. T Levels are an important link in a wider skills system, connecting learners, educators and employers to meet the needs of a changing economy. #TLevelsWeek #SkillsChangeLives #CityAndGuilds
What makes T Levels so special? For #TLevelsWeek, our Director for Policy and Strategic Partnerships, Paddy Craven, caught up with Damian Hinds MP at last week’s Conservative Party Conference. Damian, who played a key role in developing and rolling out T Levels as Secretary of State for Education, said: "The mix of college learning, core subjects, and an industrial placement is what makes T Levels so special. They give learners real workplace experience, develop crucial soft skills, and open doors to the future." 💭 He also highlighted that industrial placements aren’t just learning opportunities- they’re an investment in the next generation of skilled workers. Plus, which T Level would Damian take nowadays? 🎥 Check out the video to find out! #TLevelsWeek #SkillsChangeLives #CityAndGuilds T Levels

Completing a T Level, to a career in Civil Engineering 🛠️ After enjoying engineering at GCSE, Cobi decided to continue it further as a T Level. He was drawn to the opportunity to focus on one subject in depth and felt the hands-on practical approach suited him best. Throughout the course, he grew in confidence and was able to develop technical skills in calibrating machines and working with circuits and wiring. He shares that the practical elements of the course allowed him to build teamwork skills and provide work experience for him. Cobi has now taken the next step in his career journey, starting a degree apprenticeship in civil engineering, working on railway and bridges. Congratulations Cobi on all your hard work and success! 🥳 Does Cobi’s story inspire you? Last week we celebrated the seven incredible women who have completed the City & Guilds women into maintenance programme, a pilot initiative that has been running over the past two weeks. The women took part in hands-on DIY workshops, growing their skills and confidence in maintenance tasks, before completing a four-day work placement with a housing association. The programme was supported by a network of employers and partners who believe in creating inclusive opportunities. The event last week featured inspiring words of thanks from the participants and a special certificate presentation, as well as reflections from Stephen Young, who shared his support for the programme. The participants' determination and energy on this programme has made way for a more inclusive future in the trades. A huge congratulations go out to them all. A skills crisis is threatening the future of UK construction. ⚠️ This #CareersInConstructionMonth, we're highlighting a critical issue: 76% of construction firms struggle to recruit skilled workers, and 84% believe the industry is facing a skills crisis. 🏗️ As revealed in our Foundations for the Future report, to meet the government’s housing and net-zero goals, we need 161,000 new workers, but we’re losing 50,000 skilled professionals every year. Key barriers to recruitment include: 🏡 Rising costs 🏡 Local labour shortages 🏡 Demand for job-ready hires 🏡 Low interest from young people 🏡 Stricter immigration laws It’s time to address the skills shortage.
