About us
Counter Terrorism Policing is a collaboration of UK police forces working with the UK intelligence community to help protect the public and our national security by preventing, deterring, and investigating terrorist activity. We do this by working in local to global partnerships, from policing teams on the beat and on the streets, supported by a national network of specialist officers and staff across the UK, to our investigators and expert advisors in every corner of the world. Sadly, terrorist attacks can happen at any time or place without warning, and as the threat continues to evolve, then so must we. The challenges we face are not only in person, they are also online and in the shadows. We are dedicated to making the best of our resources, and often unique skills, working with technical experts, digital innovators, and world renowned investigators. Your skills could help protect the UK. With the ongoing terrorist threat, there has never been a more important time to be working alongside some of the best and brightest to help keep the public safe. These ordinary people do extraordinary things in an effort to thwart terrorist planning; to safeguard those who are at risk of radicalisation; to protect our critical national infrastructure, institutions and crowded places, and to pursue and bring terrorists to justice. Most of what we achieve may never see the light of day, but behind the scenes we have the very best working around the clock in an effort to keep us all safe. Every day offers a variety of exciting challenges and exceptional opportunities played out on a regional, national, and international stage. 📺 Did you see Detective Chief Superintendent Helen Flanagan on Good Morning Britain earlier? We’re calling on parents and carers to support their children to be safer online during the summer break. Do you know what your child is doing behind closed doors? 🤔 For the first time, Counter Terrorism Policing, MI5, and the National Crime Agency (NCA) are jointly calling on parents and carers to support their children to be safer online during the summer break. We are increasingly seeing children being routinely exposed to the most serious harmful online content. This includes sexual violence, self-harm and suicide content, extreme gore, animal cruelty, indecent images of children, and terrorist content. This bombardment of online harms can quickly become normalised. Worryingly, some of the children who come to our attention are completely desensitised to extreme and obscene content. CONVICTED | A man from Essex has been found guilty under the National Security Act for offering to assist the Russian Intelligence Service. Howard Phillips, 65 from Harlow, was arrested after a series of interactions with undercover officers, who he believed were Russian agents, found he was willing to spy for a foreign state. Through a series of emails, social media messages and face-to-face meetings, the undercover officers evidenced his eagerness to help support Russian espionage activities. Phillips was even willing to provide personal details for a former cabinet minister – his local MP who he had met and had visited his home. Detective Chief Superintendent Helen Flanagan, Head of Operations for the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “Phillips was unemployed and his primary motivation for wanting to work on behalf of the Russian Intelligence Service was financial reward. His conviction should act as a stark warning to anyone who thinks that carrying out illegal activity on behalf of a foreign state is an attractive or easy way to earn money.” Read more ➡ https://lnkd.in/eTGCbEK5

"The hardest thing was when we left the carriage for the last time and walked back, not carrying anybody. Because there was no one else left to save..." On the morning of 7/7, Superintendent Anna Bearman was a Police Constable on duty in Camden when she was called to what was believed to be a fire at King's Cross. Moments later, she was diverted to Russell Square where she met with casualties leaving the station, and a tube driver on the platform who said there had been an explosion. From there, Anna and her colleagues began the mile-long journey through the tunnel to reach the carriage. In the dark and smoke, they walked back and forth, again and again, helping people out one by one. Anna reflects on that day not just as a moment in her own life, but as a defining moment for London. As we approach the 20th anniversary of the London terror attacks, we're sharing powerful stories from colleagues who responded to those tragic events.
