It’s been a big week for our friends in the Liverpool City Region! Firstly, congratulations to Liverpool on being named a finalist for the 2026 European Capital of Innovation! 🎉 “This is well deserved recognition of the city’s commitment to inclusive innovation, cultural regeneration, technological advancement, strong leadership and a collaborative spirit.” Alan Welby, Managing Director – Built Environment & Local Growth. Secondly, Liverpool City Region also announced its new Growth Plan 2025–2035 which sets out a whole-system approach to connecting innovation, infrastructure, skills, health, and sustainability into a single, coherent vision. For example, the dual designation of Freeport and Investment Zone status gives it a unique edge, and commitment to 5% GVA in R&D by 2030 are a bold signal of intent. And with a £11bn investment pipeline and a clear monitoring and evaluation framework, this is a plan that is both visionary and actionable. We welcome this level of ambition and delivery confidence for Liverpool. It also mirrors our approach at Connected Places Catapult, and the importance of bringing together place-based innovation and systems thinking so local innovation economies can grow. We are also excited to see other city regions across the country announcing their Growth Plans too, and we look forward to working with local leaders, businesses and local stakeholders across the UK to grow local businesses and ultimately help turn their visions into reality. https://lnkd.in/e5Rs8C_Y Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, John Whaling, Tiffany St James, Katherine Fairclough, Kirsty McLean, Adrian Nolan, John Willis, Nuala Gallagher, Cllr Paula Basnett, Lisa Harris Liverpool City Council Wirral Council St Helens Council Sefton Council Knowsley Council Halton Borough Council Liverpool City Region Combined Authority LCR Freeport #Liverpool #LiverpoolCityRegion #GrowthPlan #EconomicGrowth
