New research from the TDS Charitable Foundation @tenancydeposits shows the worrying impact of the housing benefit freeze on people on low incomes. Over 70% of tenants receiving housing benefit struggle to find somewhere affordable to live. Over 60% are having to cut down on household essentials to pay their rent. This is unacceptable and it’s harming people’s health. We can change this by demanding Rachel Reeves to restore housing benefit to match the real cost of rent in this Autumn’s budget. About us
Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We are committed to ending homelessness. Every day we see the devastating impact homelessness has on people’s lives. Every year we work side by side with thousands of homeless people, to help them rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind for good. Through our pioneering research into the causes and consequences of homelessness and the solutions to it, we know what it will take to end it. Together with others who share our resolve, we bring our knowledge, experience and determination to campaign for the changes that will solve the homelessness crisis once and for all. We bring together a unique volunteer effort each Christmas, to bring warmth, companionship and vital services to people at one of the hardest times of the year, and offer a starting point out of homelessness. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.

Growing up, Isra experienced homelessness. Now she's studying medicine. Writing in the The Guardian on the day we learn 172,000 children are living in stuck temporary accommodation, she makes an impassioned plea for ministers to step up and build the affordable homes Britain needs. "Today’s figures are a reminder that I’m one of the lucky ones. Thousands are trapped in the same situation I experienced. The instability, the risk, the rats – and the cold." https://lnkd.in/ek2bnpEi

📢 Our message to the Chancellor: Unfreeze housing benefit to lift 200,000 adults and children out of poverty and prevent homelessness. We’ve joined 40+ organisations to call on her to restore housing benefit to match the true cost of rent in Autumn Budget. Housing benefit has been frozen while rents rise. Now just 2.7% of private rental listings in Britain are affordable for people who rely on it, according to Zoopla. To pay their rent, people are forced to make impossible choices between paying bills or putting food on the table – pushing people deeper into poverty and towards homelessness. This can’t go on. Rachel Reeves must act. Take action now: https://bit.ly/429aN0z

Today, we’re launching a new campaign in Scotland ahead of the 2026 Scottish Parliament elections — calling on every political party to commit to ending all forms of homelessness by 2040. Scotland has some of the strongest homelessness rights in the world. But every week, more people are losing their homes. It doesn’t have to be this way. Scotland can end all forms of homelessness by 2040 – we just need a bold commitment and the political will to act. Join us: https://lnkd.in/een6mxHd

Today, the UK Government has announced an extra £84m in funding to tackle homelessness this winter. Funding will be provided to councils, with the majority focused on rough sleeping and helping people to stay off the streets. Funding will also support children and families in temporary accommodation, helping them access basic facilities like Wi-Fi, laundry, travel passes for school and uniform, and help pay for food and leisure activities. This funding, from Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, is very welcome, with winter approaching and homelessness rising. We know that targeted support can make a big difference and help people take their first steps out of homelessness. We’re hopeful this marks another step towards an ambitious homelessness strategy. ▶️ https://lnkd.in/ez3x3h_y
