A socially engaged arts organisation in Huntly, Scotland.
About us
Deveron Projects is a socially-engaged arts organisation embedded in Huntly, a rural town in north-east Scotland. Our work creates deep and meaningful connections between artists, communities and places through the process of making art. We produce programmes of regular events, artists’ commissions and collective learning. All of our work, in process and outcome, brings people together across differences, aiming to build social movements that tangibly intervene in the urgent and complex issues affecting our town. From Just Transition and the climate emergency to town regeneration and rural representation, we’re led by those closest to the issues in collaboration with artists, reaching towards unexpected and transformational outcomes together. This could be a climate justice youth group, explorations of hyperlocal energy production, performance meals exploring food cultures and migration, a ‘Brexit tree’, or a new community hub on the Town Square, among many others. Underpinning our work is an ambition to build our communities’ and artists’ capacities for changemaking, resistance and self-determination, in the face of existential challenges. Through making art together, we want to disrupt dominant narratives of rural places, towards realising a collective, complex, and interconnected understanding of our place and its place in the world.
