Children of Foster Carers' Week is taking place this week, 13-19 October. 👨👩👧👧 Earlier in the week we heard from siblings Dawson and Delilah Duthie on their experiences of supporting foster children. Now it’s their mum and dad’s turn to talk about how supporting foster children has had such a positive impact on their own children growing up. Wendy and Liam Duthie share their experiences. Follow the link below to find out more about the Duthie’s story and how to get in touch with East Riding Fostering, visit: https://lnkd.in/eiD55u3w #COFCW25

About us
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is a unitary authority which means that all local council services are provided by the same council. This is different to other parts of the country where responsibility is shared between a county council and a local district or borough council. The East Riding is divided into 26 wards, each of which is represented by one or more councillors (also known as members). East Riding of Yorkshire Council covers approximately 930 square miles, making it one of the largest unitary authorities in the country. The East Riding is a predominately rural area with over half the population living in dispersed rural communities. In total, there are 333 settlements, ranging from large towns to small, isolated hamlets and farmsteads. The largest town in the East Riding is Bridlington, other major settlements are Beverley, Goole and the Haltemprice area to the west of Hull which includes Cottingham, Hessle and Anlaby/Willerby/Kirkella. The East Riding is generally an affluent area and is ranked amongst the least socially deprived area in England. In terms of housing, the relative affordability of the area means a high proportion of households are owner/occupiers.

Friday, 10 October is World Mental Health Day This year’s global theme is access to services – mental health in catastrophes and emergencies. The theme highlights the importance of people being able to protect their mental health whatever they're going through, because everyone deserves good mental health. What we see and hear in the news and online can be overwhelming and even if you're not directly affected by events, abroad or in the UK, it can still feel like a lot at times. It is okay to ask for help, no matter what you, or anyone else is going through. If you or someone you know needs emotional wellbeing or mental health support or just wants to know more about local and national organisations and services, check out our article: https://orlo.uk/OYnY5 #WMHD25 #WorldMentalHealthDay

Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said: "The Families First Partnership aims to do just that - put our families first. "Today's conference was the start of a journey for all of us, as together we develop how services support children and families, so that every child has the best start for life."
