  • Navigating market maturity stages can be complex, but we've simplified the approach. Many buyers struggle to understand new vendors because a), the problem they solve is not clear, and b), the vendor has not described the outcome the buyer seeks. It’s up to the vendor to make things clear—positioning their solution as either a Challenger, Specialist, or Inventor in the category. Getting this wrong, by misdefining categories or creating unnecessary niches and complexity, leads to long sales cycles or missed opportunities. There are three broad market stages: Introductory Stage: Problems are still poorly defined, and early adopters fund experimentation. Examples include AI assistants, VR, and quantum computing. Growth Stage: Problems are solvable, and vendors compete on benefits. Examples include electric cars and data observability platforms. Maturity Stage: Intense competition. Solutions are commoditized, and vendors focus on differentiation through niche markets. Think of CPG categories and personal computing hardware. Understanding these stages helps vendors craft their Go-To-Market strategy.
