We’re investing £35m in a state-of-the-art training facility in Leicestershire that will equip the next generation of engineers with the green skills needed for the energy transition 📣🎉 Centrica Energy Park will see thousands of engineers trained each year in the skills necessary to drive the energy transition including heat pumps, EV chargers, solar panels and battery storage. As well as a full size ‘eco house’ the facility in Lutterworth will include: 🌎 A net zero lab - used to test existing and emerging technologies. 📊 A diagnostic & innovation lab – Providing business support to British Gas' engineers and developing bespoke tools and equipment. 🔌 A smart testing lab - A controlled environment to develop and test smart metering technology. ⚡ Centrica Business Solutions controls lab - Used to develop and test industrial energy and heating solutions. 💡The Hive lab - Supporting the development of Hive Home products, including EV Chargers. The new facility will be 40% larger than the existing British Gas academy in Leicester, allowing for increased training capacity and will open it’s doors in May 2026. Here’s what people are saying about the new Lutterworth academy: 💬 Chris O'Shea, Group chief executive said, “Lutterworth will set a new benchmark for industry training, providing our engineers with the skills and confidence to deliver the first-class service our customers rightly expect and with more engineers trained in green skills, our energy transition will be more achievable.” 💬 Minister for Industry, Chris McDonald, said: "Centrica's new training facility will help support new jobs and equip thousands of engineers with the skills they need to help deliver our clean energy mission." 💬 Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire, said: “I am really pleased to welcome Centrica's groundbreaking £35m Net Zero Training Academy to Lutterworth. This is all about developing the relevant skills of the future and fostering innovation” Find out more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/ebtEyq5X
