    (trigger warning: discussion of pregnancy loss, miscarriage and stillbirth) It's Baby Loss Awareness Week, and we'd like to take a moment to talk about how companies can support employees experiencing pregnancy loss. 🤍 Half of UK adults say they or someone they know has experienced pregnancy or baby loss. Half. Yet for far too long, most workplaces just didn't know how to respond. No clear policy. No support. No understanding. Thankfully, this is starting to change. 🙏 Policies around pregnancy loss leave are becoming more common — a vital step in helping employees heal physically and emotionally after miscarriage, stillbirth, or other forms of baby loss. Distinguishing this type of leave from other sick leave or paid time off is SO important. It sends a message that companies understand what their colleagues are going through, and gives them time to grieve, recover, and be supported with compassion by the place that employs them. There's new changes being made to government legislation in the UK which will expand statutory leave to losses before 24 weeks. That's a notable step forwards. And there are also companies like SAPOVOClearBank and Microsoft who are already going above and beyond the statutory minimum requirements, with benefits like extended or unlimited compassionate leave, miscarriage leave, and dedicated pregnancy loss leave policies.     The unwritten rules of Slack (break them at your own risk: teams have fallen apart over less ⚠️): 🚨 @channel is for things everybody REALLY needs to know. ↳ If it's not *actually* need-to-know info or a bona fide emergency, don't do it. Be the boy who cried @channel too often, and you will find yourself permanently on mute. 😂 If something's funny; react, don't reply. ↳ Don't send a new message just saying 'haha'. It makes it too hard for the joke-maker to count how many people think they're hilarious, and therefore robs them of crucial validation. 🔎 Use the search bar, we beseech you. ↳ Fun fact: it's not just there for decoration. Asking a question that's already been answered further up the channel is a fast track to Exasperation City, population: your colleagues. 🧵 Threads: use them. Or don't. No one agrees. ↳ Threading is the wild west of Slack etiquette. Aim to keep stuff tidy, but when the inevitable chaos of 'several people are typing' hits... just go with it.     5 JOB INTERVIEW RED FLAGS YOU SHOULD NEVER IGNORE 👀 🚩 “We’re like a family here” ↳ I don't know about you Geoff, but I don't pay my family (and I don't fire them either) 🚩 “We work hard and play hard” ↳ An innocent sign of a high performance culture, OR a translation of 'unpaid overtime will be expected' - proceed with caution 🚩 "We haven't got a written job description yet" ↳ If it's this chaotic before you join, what will it be like once you're through the door? 🚩 Any use of "ninja", "guru" or "rockstar" ↳ Hard to explain, but these words do NOT pass the vibe check 🚩 'Benefits' like "fun team" and "free fruit" ↳ Seriously? You may as well be saying "We don't know what benefits actually are, and we also don't know what candidates actually want" Did we miss any?
