  • Our robust electronic differential lock (EDL) is proven in front- and rear-axle applications, offering unsurpassed off-road traction performance.   With a capable and reliable locking mechanism and fail-safe actuation method, it can be easily packaged into most conventional and electric transmissions.

  • "In this tight and pressured timeline for automotive companies, there is a need to be even more disciplined [...]; with everything that we need to do from an environmental and social perspective, there has to be a business value, and there is". Our Director of Sustainability, Tom Salisbury, spoke with WardsAuto about the need to embrace #sustainability more than ever, amidst the turbulence and uncertainty in the #automotive industry. As the global leader in drive systems and trusted partner to 90% of the world's global OEMs, we're continuing to drive progress towards our 2045 #netzero target, to meet the needs and expectations of our customers, society and regulation. • Earlier this month, our team made a visit to two STEM Labs located near Oragadam, India, where they met with local students who had the opportunity to present their work and gain guidance on how to develop a career in #STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).   As part of our Future Talent programme, the GKN Automotive team present included: Vice President of Asian Operations, Anthony Bell; Event Manager, Lara Baker; Regional HR Director (Asia), Luna Bose; Plant Director (FAR & DHA), Rajeev Dogra; and Plant Director (Pune and Kadi), Sreenath Gc. The Oragadam team also welcomed 15 students and their teachers from a local government school to our Oragadam facilities, where the team discussed our operations and the role of #STEM education, followed by a plant tour. This provided students with the opportunity to learn about industrial safety and gain hands-on exposure to technologies like CNC machining and robotic automation. As we look to nurture the next generation of #engineering talent, educational initiatives like this are key to supporting future talent. Thank you to all involved in these important initiatives.

  • Earlier this week, we marked Global Zero Emissions Day, an annual reminder of the need to reduce emissions and reflect on the impact that we, our industry, and our operations have on the planet.   For the #automotive sector, with one of the most complex supply chains of any industry, this issue is particularly relevant and reducing #emissions across the value chain is critical to its long-term #sustainability and addressing the impact of road transport, which makes up 15% of global energy-related emissions. At GKN Automotive, our purpose is to drive a cleaner, more sustainable world, not just today, but every day. As we progress towards our 2045 #netzero target, we're taking measurable steps such as: - Curbing direct emissions by 30% in 2024 through process optimisations and improvements - Adopting a recover, remanufacture, #reuse approach - such as our sideshaft remanufacturing process, which reduces embedded emissions by 63% versus a new product - Curating a responsible #supplychain by treating Scope 3 emissions as a key systems engineering challenge to be optimised from the outset. To achieve this, we utilise Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) and Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), enabling us to evaluate our products from cradle to grave, from raw material sourcing and production through use to end-of-life. This provides a holistic view of emissions, enabling us to act decisively where it matters most to improve not only our own footprint, but also that of our customers and partners.   To find out more, hear from Sean Worrall, our Chief Engineer of Product Sustainability on how LCAs can support more sustainable manufacturing below...
