  • As a health psychologist, I recognise the pain and frustration that can come from feeling as though your identity is being overshadowed by your illness. It's important to acknowledge these feelings and understand that they are a natural response to your changing circumstances. However, it's also crucial to remember that your illness does not define you. If you're struggling with feelings of losing your identity to your chronic illness, remember that you are more than your condition. You have unique strengths and qualities that persist regardless of your health challenges. If you need support in navigating these changes and rediscovering or redefining your identity, reach out 💌 DM me the word 'EMPOWER' and find out how I can help. #healthpsychology #healthpsychologist #healthpsychologylondon #therapylondon #therapistlondon #healthpsychologistuk #chronicillness #chronichealthconditions #stress #burnout

Ever notice that after a day of feeling well and tackling every chore or missed activity, you end up feeling worse? You're not alone in this frustrating cycle. If you have a chronic illness, the unpredictability of symptoms can create a difficult choice: take advantage of a good day to catch up on life or rest to maintain stability. This decision is complicated by the rare energy bursts that seem like golden opportunities. It's tempting to do as much as possible while you feel capable, but this often leads to overexertion and, unfortunately, subsequent flare-ups. 👉 Understanding the pain-energy cycle is crucial. This cycle involves moments of feeling energised, followed by the inevitable crash after pushing too hard. My suggestion?🩵 Pacing, a strategy of balancing activity with adequate rest, is key here. Instead of maximising output on good days, it’s healthier to set manageable, realistic goals and intersperse them with periods of rest. This approach can help maintain a more consistent energy level and prevent the boom-bust cycle. Remember, managing a chronic illness isn’t about eliminating bad days but making the most out of every day in a balanced way. Interested in setting up a plan to achieve this? 💌 DM me the word 'EMPOWER' and find out how I can help. #healthpsychology #healthpsychologist #healthpsychologylondon #therapylondon #therapistlondon #healthpsychologistuk #chronicillness #chronichealthconditions #stress #burnout

  • Hello! I'm Joanna Konstantopoulou. A Health Psychologist based in the medical district of Harley Street. My journey in psychology began with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Middlesex University, followed by a Master of Science in Health Psychology at Hertfordshire University, and a Master in Child Development from the Institute of Education at the University of London. My deep dive into the world of psychological therapy was then further shaped by a four-year professional diploma in Rational Emotive & Cognitive Behaviour Therapy from the Albert Ellis Institute in New York. Over the years, I've had the privilege of offering psychological therapy to individuals, couples, and groups, tackling a wide range of emotional, behavioural, and chronic health issues. My work extends from addressing depression and anxiety to more specific challenges like dental phobia and binge eating disorders. My approach is rooted in evidence-based practice, ensuring that each client receives therapy tailored to their unique needs, utilising behavioural techniques, cognitive restructuring, and mindfulness. Today, I run a thriving private practice where I specialise in behavioural change, aiming to help my clients achieve a balanced state of mental, emotional, and physical health. I am constantly learning and growing in my field and regularly participating in conferences. I am committed to continuous professional development to bring the latest and most effective strategies to my practice. When I’m not immersed in my work, I cherish my time staying active and embracing a healthy lifestyle. Whether it's playing tennis, running, or cycling, I find great joy in staying fit. Travelling also plays a significant part in my life, offering new experiences and perspectives. I love connecting with people and sharing insights on health and wellbeing. Whether through media contributions or my own clinic's blog, I aim to spread knowledge and understanding about the power of psychological health. • Is stress showing up in your body? Do this 👇 As a health psychologist, I understand the intricate ways that stress can influence not just your mind but your body. Recognising these connections is crucial for developing effective stress management strategies that support both mental and physical health. Therefore, managing stress effectively requires a mind-body approach. One that considers the interaction between biological, psychological and social factors. This is why as a Health Psychologist, I don't just provide therapy. I also help my clients to explore techniques such as mindfulness exercises, regular physical activity and adequate sleep as ways that can all mitigate the adverse effects of stress. Additionally, learning to identify early signs of stress can help you take proactive steps to prevent escalation and protect your health. Many people overlook the physical symptoms of stress, attributing them to other causes. So, during Stress Awareness Month, take the opportunity to reevaluate your stress levels. Or If you need guidance on managing stress or its physical symptoms, reach out. 💌 DM "EMPOWER" to start a conversation on how health psychology can help you manage stress and improve your overall health. #healthpsychology #healthpsychologist #healthpsychologylondon #therapylondon #therapistlondon #healthpsychologistuk #chronicillness #chronichealthconditions #stress #burnout

  • Here are some practical steps to help reduce the fear and stress associated with social interactions... 1. Let your friends and family know about your condition and the possibility of sudden cancellations. Most people are more understanding when they are aware of the circumstances. 2. Organise social gatherings that are easy to manage, even when you're not feeling your best, such as short visits or virtual hangouts. 3. Connect with others who face similar challenges. They can offer empathy and understanding from a place of shared experience. 4. If the anxiety from potential social fallout becomes overwhelming, consider seeking support from a health professional who can provide strategies to manage these feelings effectively. If you struggle with the fear that others won’t understand your health-related unpredictability 💌 DM me the word 'EMPOWER' and find out how I can help. #healthpsychology #healthpsychologist #healthpsychologylondon #therapylondon #therapistlondon #healthpsychologistuk #chronicillness #chronichealthconditions #stress #burnout

  • If you have followed me for a while, you more than likely already know this, but I have been a Health Psychologist for over 15 years, and was even voted London’s Best Health Psychologist 2017. My qualifications include a bachelor's in Psychology, two master's degrees (in Health Psychology and Child Development), a four-year diploma in Rational Emotive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR Therapy. Over the years, I have seen hundreds of clients and have noticed common patterns that can make change feel more challenging. I've found that the biggest challenge is this 1 thing... Creating sustainable change. This often occurs because... → You are working with the wrong kind of professional → You have not identified the root cause of your symptoms → You are using "one size fits all" treatment methods or "bandaid fixes" → The strategies you are using are not evidence-based → You haven't committed to a comprehensive plan → You are relying on incomplete information from online sources, which don’t address your unique needs So, what is my key approach to helping so many clients create genuine long-lasting positive change in their life? 👉 I help you to identify the root cause of your struggles / challenges - this is so I can create a plan that is highly personalised and tailored to you and your specific needs and challenges as an individual. 👉 I work using a biopsychosocial approach, meaning that I take a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that goes beyond traditional therapy. With my 360-degree approach, we look at every aspect of your health and life. By considering psychological, biological, and social influences, we create a plan that addresses every aspect of your well-being. 👉 I don't use a one-size-fits-all approach. As a Health Psychologist, I am trained in a variety of therapeutic tools and behavioural techniques. When we start working together, I will help you determine which will be most impactful for you. 👉 We develop an evidence-based therapy plan that aligns with your psychological needs, daily routines, and personal goals—ensuring it is both realistic and sustainable within your life. When do you want to get started? 💌 DM me the word 'EMPOWER' and find out how I can help.

  • Let's talk solutions... 👇 I have been a health psychologist for over 15 years now, and this topic is one that comes up often. The question "Who am I now that I have this illness?" is a profound reflection many face after being diagnosed with a chronic condition. As a chronic illness diagnosis can feel like a pivotal moment that divides life into 'before' and 'after,' leading to significant changes in self-perception and life plans. If you are struggling with your identity post-diagnosis something which has helped a number of my clients is learning to embrace the concept of a fluid identity. One that can adapt and evolve in response to life's changes. Rather than clinging to a fixed idea of who you were, exploring who you can become can lead to growth and new opportunities. If you feel like your chronic illness is overshadowing your identity 💌 DM me the word 'EMPOWER' and find out how I can help. #healthpsychology #healthpsychologist #healthpsychologylondon #therapylondon #therapistlondon #healthpsychologistuk #chronicillness #chronichealthconditions #stress #burnout
