Key figures from our latest Maritime Arbitration in Numbers report: • Over 1,800 maritime arbitrations seated in London in 2024 • 36% increase in Hong Kong Maritime Arbitration Group's 2024 arbitral appointments • 75% rise in Singapore’s maritime references since 2022 • 7% dip in London’s new maritime case in 2024 These trends reflect a more competitive and diversified maritime arbitration landscape. As HFW’s Paul Dean puts it: "As global trade patterns evolve and parties seek efficiency and neutrality, the key developments we've seen this year – from the remarkable expansion of activity across Asia to the growth of traditionally smaller hubs - will continue to shape the future of maritime arbitration." "A quarter of the world's airspace is closed to many airline operators - it's a very uncertain world." Rachel Barrie, CEO of aviation insurer Global Aerospace, tells us how insurers are managing and assessing risk in a "fluid" and "fragile" market. Rachel was speaking with our Global Senior Partner Giles Kavanagh as part of HFW Industry Insights, where we invite clients and other leading figures from across our sectors to share their thoughts about the key issues facing their business and the wider market. Rachel shares her thoughts on the key issues facing the aviation insurance industry, including the rise of “thermonuclear” verdicts for plaintiffs, whether insurance has an image problem as a career choice (and what Global is doing to attract and retain top talent), and how insurers are managing and assessing risk in an increasingly uncertain world. Rachel also explains why people are right to ask questions about aviation safety, and how, when it comes to leadership, saying thank you goes a long way.
