Yesterday, the Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy visited Snaresbrook Crown Court to speak with staff about their crucial role in ensuring justice is delivered every day. The visit was an opportunity for the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister Alexandra Davies-Jones and Minister Sarah Sackman to hear from staff the challenges and pressures within the court system, and recognise the dedication of our staff. The government are now considering the first part of Sir Brian Leveson’s Criminal Court reform recommendations, which proposes once-in-a-generation reform that will improve timeliness in the courts and deliver swifter justice for victims.

Historic moment as Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy was sworn in as Lord Chancellor - becoming the first Black Lord Chancellor in British history before presiding over the Opening of the Legal Year at Westminster Abbey. In a ceremony steeped in centuries of tradition, the newly appointed Lord Chancellor took the oath to respect the rule of law and defend judicial independence. This momentous occasion not only honours our proud legal heritage but signals a new era of leadership for the Ministry of Justice.
