The sessions, aimed at young care experienced people aged 16-25 years, will kick-off again next week, joint funded by Room 42 and the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation. These free sessions are aimed at care leavers aged 16yrs plus or care experienced, who are also invited to the launch event at the Tigers Trust Arena next Tuesday (21 October) from 4.30pm and will include a kickabout, food and drinks, information of the many programmes and support that Tigers Trust offer, as well as an appearance from a Hull FC player with a ticket giveaway to a future match. Significant regeneration works at Costello Playing Fields are now underway. The major upgrades will include a purpose-built 3G all-weather pitch with a dedicated changing facility, additional parking and an EV charging point. The improvements will complement Costello Playing Fields’ existing offer, including the recently reopened running track at Costello Stadium following capital investment. This will create a state-of-the-art year-round sports provision in west Hull, providing a high-quality facility for community user groups during peak times, such as evenings and weekends. The 3G pitch and changing facilities will be used by Hull College during the day during term time. Improvements will benefit the general public, students, sports clubs and park runners on what is currently a site prone to flooding. Cllr Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture, leisure and customer services at the council, said: “I am delighted that the council is able to start these major improvement works for Costello Playing Fields. “This project benefits from considerable investment by the council and we’ve taken on board public opinion about the site and incorporated that into our plans. “To have another state-of-the-art sports facility for the people of Hull, including residents, sports club members and, in particular, its students and young people, is fantastic and I look forward to seeing it once completed.” Contractor HULL ESTEEM CONSORTIUM PSP LIMITED will carry out the works which are expected to be completed by autumn 2026. Whilst all efforts will be made to minimise disruption, public access to the car park will be suspended and the car park closed from time to time, advanced notice will be provided.

Essential improvement work is set to begin in East Park later this month, bringing much-needed upgrades to the park’s footpaths. The improvements will involve resurfacing and reconstructing areas of the footpaths which have deteriorated, whilst also improving existing drainage. Once finished, the newly improved footpaths will provide a safe and even surface for everyone who uses the beloved park. The work, which will focus on the footpaths surrounding the lake and rugby field, is scheduled to begin on Monday 20 October and is expected to be completed on Friday 14 November, weather depending. To reduce disruption on park users, the scheme will be carried out in three phases: Phase one: Hurley Close link footpath (side of rugby field). Footpath closed to users between Monday 20 October and Tuesday 4 November Phase two: Lake footpath at the rear of James Reckitt Avenue. Footpath closed to users between Monday 27 October and Friday 7 November Phase three: Summergangs link footpath. Footpath closed to users between Tuesday 4 November and Friday 14 November Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “East Park is a much-loved space for residents across Hull, and maintaining its accessibility and functionality is a top priority for us. “This work will ensure the park’s footpaths remain safe, usable, and accessible for everyone. “Investing in our city’s pavements and public spaces is one of my key priorities, so I’m pleased to see this project moving forward imminently.” Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure at Hull City Council, added: “East Park is a popular green space which attracts thousands of visitors a year. “This scheme will not only improve the look of the park but will ensure it remains a safe and enjoyable place for everyone to visit and enjoy. “We would like to thank our park users for their patience and understanding while we carry out these works.” The scheme will be completed by PBS Construction Limited on behalf of the council.
