“Progression is starting to show. Some young people have moved into employment and other have enrolled in college”. - Kareem Ricketts, mentor at The DJ& MC Academy. We are proud to spotlight the charities which, through LandAid’s help, have been supporting young people into employment, education and out of homelessness. This month, we are shining the light on The British Dj & MC Academy, a social enterprise who received a £15,000 StreetSmart Charity UK grant in 2024. In honour of hashtag #BlackHistoryMonth, we want to celebrate The Academy’s focus on diversity and their strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels respected. ‘We want the property industry to think bigger on ending homelessness’ Last week was #WorldHomelessDay, an important reminder of why the industry’s efforts to end youth homelessness are vital. The recent APPG report on homes, support and prevention highlights our position that homelessness is not inevitable. Our CEO Paul Morrish was invited to share his opinions on this report in this month’s publication of CoStar. Paul urges the industry to ask hard questions. What more can we do, as a sector, as individuals, to ensure the foundations we lay are strong enough, deep enough, fair enough? Did you know that in England, Black people are four times more likely to face homelessness? Research from Shelter highlights deep racial inequality in our housing system and the significant barriers in accessing social housing for black communities. At LandAid, we believe everyone deserves a safe, secure place to call home. This #BlackHistoryMonth, we’re shining a light on the systemic challenges that perpetuate homelessness and inequality and on the urgent need for change. This November, I’m running the Florence Marathon in support of LandAid, a charity dedicated to ending youth homelessness across the UK. It’s more than just a race. It’s a chance to make a real difference. I’m lucky. I have a roof over my head. A warm bed. A place to feel safe. I can close my door, switch off the lights, and sleep without fear. But for thousands of young people across the UK, that simple comfort is out of reach. They’re cold. Alone. Anxious. Forgotten. Some are sleeping on buses. Some are sofa-surfing night after night. Some are too scared or ashamed to ask for help. In 2022/23, nearly 136,000 young people reached out to their local council because they had nowhere else to go. And countless more didn’t, hidden from view, struggling in silence. This is heartbreaking. But it’s not hopeless. LandAid is working to change this: funding real, life-changing projects that give young people somewhere safe to sleep, and someone to turn to. Every single penny goes directly to the cause. No waste. Just impact. And it starts with us. It starts with you. If you have a roof over your head, you already have more than many. Let’s use that privilege to make a difference. Together, we can help end youth homelessness and give every young person the chance to feel safe, supported, and seen. Please support this amazing cause by clicking on the link below. Every donation makes a difference. 👇 ⬇️ LandAid
