It’s Black History Month and throughout October we’ll be shining a light on our colleagues. We spoke to Uchenna Onuzulike, about how his Nigerian Igbo heritage has influenced his career. “I wear two hats at the Trust. I’m a Enhanced observation healthcare assistant and serve as a Quality improvement practitioner/project lead for transformation initiatives. “I started my career as a business analyst trainee in a commercial bank, before moving to technology sector as a scrum master. I’m Driven by a passion for solving complex problems and implementing efficient systems. “I moved to the UK after working in agile project roles in Nigeria’s fintech sector.” "I transitioned into healthcare because I wanted to apply those project management skills to an area with deep human impact. Seeing the challenges faced by vulnerable patients, particularly those with dementia, confirmed that this is where I can make the most meaningful difference. “My heritage taught me resilience, resourcefulness, and the value of community. These values shaped my approach to leadership, whether guiding teams in tech or leading a dementia falls prevention pilot in the NHS. I believe innovation should be inclusive, and that frontline voices matter.”

Happy Diwali from priest Avinash Lakhani from ISKON temple who hosted our 2025 Diwali celebration. Diwali is the festival of lights. It commemorates the return of Hindu Prince Rama of Ayodhya, his wife Sita, and brother Lakshman from exile. It symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, and good over evil.

It’s Black History Month and throughout October we’ll be shining a light on our colleagues. We spoke to, Priscilla a Healthcare assistant on Jonson ward, about how her Ghanaian heritage has influenced her career. Working in a hospital environment has strengthened the values I hold deeply as a Ghanaian that includes hard work, honesty, and community. The proverb “Nsa baako nkura adesoa,” meaning “one hand cannot lift a load,” reminds me that caring for patients is never an individual effort but a shared responsibility built on teamwork and trust. These principles guide my daily work, reminding me that true care extends beyond medical tasks it is about kindness, unity, and uplifting those around me.
