Raise Up Youth Summit – Liverpool ✨ What an event centred on a clear Call To Action, to share ideas and improve how we support young people into meaningful jobs/careers. Key takeaway: young people don’t want to be another cog in the wheel, as Joe Hall was saying, they expect authenticity, familiarity, and to have their ideas heard. It really made us, as a small local recruitment consultancy, to reflect on how we attract and recruit talent across our sectors. Huge thanks to Sara Lawton (Pgcert) Daniel Ross for the Jobs Carousel slot, and to Pamela Clifford and Callum Abdallah an apprentice from Evolve Facility Services Ltd for sharing his journey. Our dream team were Mia Goodall Eve Brosnan Rhianne Johnson HMS Halton Housing Riverside Magenta Living who brought the sector to life, speaking with so many motivated young people. 👏 As we end the week, we’re keeping the conversation going, how do we open up more opportunities for skills and young people?? Our steering group from National Housing Maintenance Forum (NHMF) will be focussed on this Chris Patient Lindsay Parker Liz O'Connor Duncan Palmer Simon Bernstein Alex Hammond 💫 Is your business part of the Social Mobility Index? It’s a great way to measure growth and success in creating real opportunities for young people and promoting inclusion. Our construction and social housing clients will look for “experienced” individuals, but they will also look to find where the talent is there.. we will be here to connect it! We’ll also be sharing a signposting email with Thrive Careers Hub focused on promotion of social housing, property and construction and how to find opportunities in housing. 💫 If you or your business would like to be part of this communication, please reach out to Debbie King or Tammy Marlowe we’re happy to chat! Have a brilliant weekend everyone! ☀️ #RaiseUpYouthSummit #SocialMobility #SocialMobilityIndex #YoungPeople #SkillsDevelopment #SocialHousing '#construction #FutureTalent #OpportunityForAll ☑️

Encouraging Kindness and Awareness on World Mental Health Day 💚 Today is World Mental Health Day, a time to reflect, connect, and show kindness. Let’s take a moment to recognise the power of conversation. Talking and listening can make all the difference, a problem shared has never meant so much. You never know what someone is carrying, the weight behind a smile. There are so many of us walking around holding more than we show. We’re all in this together and kindness has never been so important! We want to congratulate the brilliant charities and movements working tirelessly to challenge stigma and support people every day. One of those is the The Jade L Roberts Project who provide crucial help for those facing mental health challenges and play a key role in suicide prevention and postvention. Their work reminds us how vital early support and compassionate listening truly are. So today, let’s all give this some real thought. Check in with someone. Ask how they are and mean it. That small act of kindness could change a life. 💫 And let’s take this mindset into everything we do, not just today, but every day. Does What You Wear Impact How You Work? The BBC recently shared another conversation starter about how our relationship with workwear has changed and one fact jumped out: "Spending on work clothes has dropped significantly" and to us that rings true. We’ve definitely noticed our own spend on “work attire” has fallen over the past few years. The suits and heels have been replaced by something more relaxed, smart-casual, comfortable! But the question is and always has been: 🟣 Does what we wear still affect how we feel and perform at work? If we’re sitting in hoodies and trackies, do we still feel like we’re going to work? 🟣 Can we truly switch into “professional mode” without that little ritual of getting ready for the day? And then there’s the grey area: “casual attire.” 🟣 What does that even mean anymore? It’s open to interpretation and those interpretations vary wildly across industries, roles, and even where you're located! Maybe it’s not about what we wear, but the intention behind it, how it makes us show up, engage, and connect? 💫 Questions for a Tuesday: Has your wardrobe (and mindset) around workwear changed? Do you work just as effectively in a hoodie as in a suit/more formal attire? And what does “casual attire” look like? A conversation to continue... We’ve been reading an interesting article from #Totaljobs this week about age bias and inclusivity in recruitment and it really struck a chord with us. Debbie King and Tammy Marlowe have both been speaking to clients recently who've mentioned that recruitment now features on their risk register, particularly for those hard-to-fill specialist roles where applications seem to be getting fewer and fewer. One idea that is always attractive and sounds like a positive step is the triage approach to specialist vacancies, creating roles for experienced staff who’ve retired (or are thinking about it) but still want to stay involved. It’s such a smart way to keep valuable knowledge in the business and support/mentor the next generation coming through. This stat from the report is particularly worrying: 1 in 4 candidates over 50 refrain from applying for jobs because they feel “old” compared to their peers. That hesitation often stems from negative stereotypes that still exist within parts of the hiring process. A few takeaways from the article worth sharing: ☑️ Champion age inclusivity. With 1 in 6 people expected to be aged 60+ by 2030, employers who focus on skills, not age, will be one step ahead in a market with fewer joiners and more stayers. ☑️ Tackle age bias in recruitment. Many older candidates still face barriers or feel discouraged from applying. Training hiring managers on unconscious bias and rethinking benefits to appeal to all ages can really help. ☑️ Keep investing in lifelong learning. 83% of candidates say ongoing development helps reduce age bias. Older workers are just as committed to learning as anyone else, we just need to make sure the opportunities are there. There’s so much experience, value and stability in our older workforce, we just need to make sure we’re creating space for it. Let us know your views 😀 👍 #Recruitment #SocialHousing #construction #property #AgeInclusivity #FutureOfWork #TalentStrategy #DiversityAndInclusion 💫

Here’s a Friday, This Is Us. 💫 At MK Consult, we’re two very different professionals in recruitment and consultancy, a little bit of Yin & Yang. 💫 🟣 Tammy Marlowe fast-paced, responsive, and the one who gets those thank-you notes saying “thank you for finding me a great job so quickly.” 🟣 Debbie King thoughtful, reflective, always asking “is this right?” and making sure everything we do is rooted in safe recruitment, trust, and guidance. This week we’ve… ☑️ Supported young people looking for work Thrive Careers Hub ☑️ Had the pleasure of catching up with the lovely Kerri McKenna ☑️ Met with clients who we work with closely to provide the highest quality work and response to recruitment challenges ☑️ Met candidates who have recently been left without work, often feeling a little in the wilderness, and done our best to support, advise, and signpost when opportunities just don’t seem to be there. Oh, and it was Tammy’s birthday this week 🎉 ... Happy birthday to the lady who brings the adventure and lights up the room wherever she goes! ❤️ For us, recruitment is not about sales, it’s about people, help, support, and consulting. Between us we bring: ✔️ Social Housing expertise ✔️ Construction realism ✔️ Directness and honesty ✔️ Support, guidance & safe recruitment practices But what really holds us together are our values, Trust, Honesty, and Integrity. Those are the foundations of everything we do, with candidates, clients, and each other. And for a Friday… we’re as busy as ever with commercial roles and have some fantastic opportunities with house builders. If you’re looking for a move or just some straight-talking advice, we’re here. Different strengths. Shared values. Same vision. #Recruitment #Consultancy #Values #SafeRecruitment #SocialHousing #Construction #Housebuilders #MakingADifference 💫

Last week was a fantastic one for networking and catching up with so many friends and clients. We kicked things off with Tammy Marlowe at the Property & Construction Networking Lunch in Bury, where we heard the emotional story of Jensen and the powerful work of Lagan's Foundation truly moving and informative. Later in the week, Debbie King had the pleasure of attending the Downtown in Business Greater Manchester Business Awards evening with the incredible team from Nugent. Huge congratulations to all the winners and shortlisted businesses, a special shoutout to Seddon and The Lowry Hotel on their well deserved awards. Wishing everyone a brilliant week ahead! As always, our work continues to focus on recruitment and consultancy across construction, property, and social housing. If we can support you or your organisation, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. And if you're attending The Labour Party Conference in Liverpool today, what a brilliant opportunity to raise our voices, start important conversations, and make connections that matter. Let’s keep the momentum going, have a great week! #recruitment #consultancy #socialhousing #liverpool #Northwest💫
